Located in the heart of Madrid’s historic district, and receiving over 10 million visitors each year, San Miguel Market is the capital city’s gastronomic temple, the contemporary essence of Spanish cuisine. From the finest Iberian ham and the freshest daily catch from Galicia, to Mediterranean rices and specialty cheeses from Castile, Asturias and the Basque Country. Fine wines and fresh ingredients of the highest quality, from every corner of Spain. Opened as a wholesale market in 1916, by May of 2009, it became the first and leading country’s gastronomic market. In 2018, the market will undergo a period of consolidation when it comes to many of the stalls within.

Explore a variety of food. Tasty fruits, sangria and burger. Great spot for lunch or dinner with some drinks.

We stopped by on a whim, I wouldn’t recommend unless you are happy to stand and eat/drink. If you have been to other city markets, this one is quite different. Not one for ingredients buying, more for a light lunch and a drink. Food was...More

One of the up-market food market in Madrid. Beautiful building and great food & wine. Standing mostly and a bit more expensive than the Marcado de Cerbado but great all the same

This place reminded me of the market in Las Ramblas Barcelona. It's buzzing, vibrant and ever so busy. The place is a haven for food and drink lover - didn't get the chance to sample any of the food nor the drinks as it was...More

A must visit while in Madrid. We went there twice on our 11 day trip to Spain. It does get a bit crowded and everyone has a glass of wine, we did too.

A great variety of everything edible! This is a place to enjoy the sights and smells of food prepared to be enjoyed. The area is always crowded, so buy food and eat elsewhere if you want to enjoy quietly and sitting down.

The place is usually packed with tourists, but it stays pleasant. Even when crowded. Good food. The place has 2 excellence oyster bars that are worth a visit. Be prepared to pay, expensive but worth the money if you skip the upfront-prepared tourist offerings and...More

There’s probably more authentic and local markets in Madrid but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give Mercado de San Miguel a visit. Chances are you’ll be walking around the area anyway and it’s a great place to take a break to grab a bite and...More

This market is ok for foodies, but overpriced and most of the staff working each counter not friendly and act annoyed, especially at the bar.

We happened on this place by chance, but what a wonderful surprise. Amazing atmosphere, food and drink of every description and at a very reasonable price. Well worth a visit.

Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street
performers, colorful lights, window shopping,
restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and
churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a
collection of plazas interconnected by a network of
side streets. Some of these side streets are wide
pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so
it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as
