Here they work! I really enjoyed the food, and the charisma and professionalism of the team. Very Spanish 👏

This is a tapas bar with the look of a uk fish and chip shop. Lots of stainless steel surfaces. The squid rings in a roll were great. The anchovies looked fantastic. Fast noisy service. Lots of shouting through to the kitchen. Eat at the bar counter or on a little seat around the edge. Really liked it.

Stopped in here because it looked spacious yet authentic. Had a cold beer and some great pescado adobado (fried fish nuggets) with a huge lemon. Really friendly staff. Would recommend again in a heartbeat.

We came to this shop after a long and exhausted sightseeing on the last Sunday. We planned to go Museo de Jamons however, they were too crowded. Passed by this cafe, they were full of people, however, we were attracted by their big photo of "deep fried squids burger" We tried our best to order the food, as we completely... More

I agree with previous opinion - the true spirit of the Madrid eateries can be found here. It's U-shaped counter is full of tapas to choose from, the waiters are working behind it - filling glasses, serving food and loudly shouting the orders to the kitchen. Bocadillo with fried squids seems to be the favourite among locals. We tried some... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
