Interesting place

Fast and friendly waiters, some nice background music and pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Complementary bread with great hummus and dishes are relatively large. Lots of locals so out of the tourists area.

Came here at 10pm on a Saturday without a reservation and they were very accommodating, only had to wait 5 minutes at the bar while the gotta table ready. Good attentive service throughout the meal, food was high quality and although they were very busy it came out quickly. Had the chicken in filo pastry, yum.

The restaurant itself is lovely, the food I had was wonderful, but I can't forget the incredibly rude treatment I received from one of the wait staff. When she asked if I was English, she practically sneered at me and disappeared to get me the menu in English. I tried to order in Spanish (I speak a little) and while... More

Nice ambience, good service and excellent music choice. This might be my new favorite restaurant in Madrid.

Chueca is the kind of neighbourhood you don't want other people to find out about. Trendy boutiques alongside tumbledown terraced buildings, narrow streets and narrower pavements - perhaps like Soho might have been 50 years ago. And throughout it is packed with bars and restaurants, some so old they have been there for ever, others demonstrating that even conservative Madrid... More

Delicious meal and lovely service (particularly the waiter with a beard!). I would highly recommend the Camembert - not v Spanish, but wonderful. After almost two weeks in Spain we wanted a bit of a change in food so this restaurant which does still do tapas but also more was perfect. The burger was mouth-wateringly brilliant (medium in Spain always... More

We sought refuge in Diurno on a rainy Sunday night and was pleased with what we stumbled upon by chance. Food and ambience reminded us of our hometown San Francisco. Started with complimentary baguette, hummus and olives, all delish. We ordered the goat cheese salad and fried eggplant drizzled with honey, both excellent. Also the salmon sashimi and chicken wrapped... More

I was surprised by a Spanish bar that doesn't stock any brandy and the server wasn't as pleasant as we have come to experience in Madrid.

We ate from the 25th Anniversary menu, 25€ a head - we came away stuffed, smiling and very satisfied! Would recommend the Japanese dumplings to start, Salmon main and the Tiramisu!

Staying in Chueca

Neighborhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
