Our hotel recommended this small deceptively excellent restaurant hidden in a dead end street near the Retiro park. The staff was helpful and friendly the sommelier recommended an excellent wine within the price range we requested and the food was excellent. We both had the red tuna special that was cooked just as we prefer with an interesting sauce.

Despite a recommendation by our hotel concierge, and the great recent reviews on Trip Adviser, we had a very average luncheon at this venue. Of our 8 day stay in Madrid , and enjoying excellent food, we were disappointed with Garcia de la Navarra. To be fair however, without knowing what was going on, we did notice other later customers... More

Reading all the great reviews for this place, I really wanted to go especially as it was very near to our hotel. We booked a table and when we arrived, we were warmly greeted and shown to our table. Thereafter, the service was great even when the place became very busy later in the evening. We went with some suggestions... More

Wonderful. Fresh and flavorful. Sardines on a most savory tomato based sauce was my favorite. Knowledgeable, friendly servers. I appreciated the wine recommendations and tried several amazing Spanish wines.

A local told us about this place and it was really wonderful. Everything we had on the menu was really great quality and very interesting. "La Taverna" was really special.

Our meal experience here was a 10 out of 10. In addition to the absolutely outstanding food, the staff made the experience particularly enjoyable, polite and fun at the same time. What a jewel to have discovered!

After staying a week in Toledo and Madrid, this was our best dining experience by far! The waiters were polite, professional and with a great sense of humor. Food was simple, but the ingredients were of the best possible quality. All the 5 dishes we had were sublime, really a dance of flavours! Highly recommend!

A must if you enjoy wine and excellent food at extremely user friendly prices. Luis is one of the most knowledgeable wine sommeliers in Spain, aided by his brother in charge of the kitchen, which provide very fresh product, sourced from the best suppliers. Very friendly staff and if you need a quick snack, go next door to La Taberna... More

We booked a table early in the evening when they opened. We were very lucky to get a table. When we arrived we were taken to our table. The waiter was very friendly and efficient. The permanent menu is small and the specials of the day is large. We had the croquettes- truffles and the ham as a starter. They... More

Unfortunately we didn't find this place until our last night. The service was great. We had cheese and the cutest little sausages along with drinks. We would have loved to try more except we had already had an early dinner. Great neighborhood restaurant.

Staying in Paseo del Prado

Neighborhood Profile
Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
