While out searching for a decent but affordable restaurant, we came across this little place. We did not make a mistake! All 4 meals were excellent choices (eggplant dish, spaghetti with pesto, spaghetti carbonara and a pizza) and the jug of sangria was also delicious. We were so happy with the food that we splashed out on dessert (cheesecake, apple... More

I spent 3 days in Madrid with some friends and this was a highlight. We walked by and noticed it was packed - a good sign, considering most of the restaurants in the surrounding area were not so busy. The prices were very doable for student travelers. I ended up splurging big time - getting the beef lasagna, sangria, and... More

We were extremely disappointed by the food at this place. The vegetables in the vegetarian crepe were package frozen vegetables with no flavour. No effort had been put into the quality of the food. A waste of 30 euros. We recommend going to Miranda down the street instead.

My husband and I really enjoyed our meal at Piccolino della farfalla. Great meal and great service! One of our favorite stops when visiting Madrid!

The real highlight of this restaurant was the extremely attentive bar tender - he looked after us from the point we entered even so we were not be able to sit down immediately. The pizzas are not very big, but are generally good value for money. The restaurant seems to be quite busy which is surely a testament that they... More

I was in Madrid in mid March with my adult daughter for a 4 night city break. I had been to Madrid twice before --once through work and then for two overnights as part of an organised tour. This time though I knew the basic layout of city and was looking forward to exploring the city at my pace. My... More

Welcoming family feel restaurant. Fantastic atmosphere and food. My wife had a vegetarian lasagna and I had a steak. I was quite surprised at the quality of the meat given the restaurant is classified as vegetarian. Very reasonably priced. Surprised its not ranked higher. Would definitely recommend!!!

I have eaten at Il Piccolino della Farfalla a few times. Their day menu (which always includes a vegetarian option) is unbeatable in value and choices. This is a popular restaurant so it fills up quickly, and service can be a bit slow because of that, so I would not go there if I was in a rush. The restaurant... More

After 4 days in Madrid, I found this place which actively advertises "vegetarian dishes" in their menu. I was so happy to finally find some food I could eat which was not potato-based or bread and olives!! The food was delicious and the waiters were really nice. We were a bit early, 7:30 pm, as we were with a child.... More

I've often walked past and fancied going in. Well we did today and loved it. The interior is quite basic but charming, & the staff lovely. We ate pizzas, salad and my son had a tasty spinach & cheese pie. I would totally recommend it, lovely atmosphere full of local people. Xx

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
