I had a mid-afternoon meal here and was very happy with the experience. Many restaurants in Madrid close for several hours between lunch and dinner service. Taberna Real is one that doesn’t, so that’s why I chose to visit there. It was a fairly warm afternoon, but I wanted to sit on the terrace and watch the world go by.... More

Based on the relatively positive comments on TripAdvisor we tried this restaurant near the Madrid opera and picked a table on the terrace on a public square. Dining outside with view on the passing crowd was already a positive start and was very nice. For the diner we chose the suggested menu, exciting out of a starter, a main course... More

Stopped by while walking around and had some sangria which was VERY good. We tried the tapas while sitting outside with a nice breeze and the view of constant people walking past. The waiter took the time to explain and offer different tapas.

The all goods are okay. they are giving too many appletizers, beginners, etc. So as a Turkish restaurant. As place, at the good area.

Popped in for a tapa and a caña and our waiter (Pepe I think) was very helpful, bringing us lovely tapas of smoked salmon and of peppers with tuna. Beautiful traditional restaurant, exceeding clean, a treat miss by many who only sat outside in the sun.

Had the jamon Iberico de bellota and toasted bread with tomato and it was delicious. The ham was sliced nice and thin and the tomato bread was a great accompaniment. The sweet red "Miro" vermouth on tap was really good also. We were here early around 7:30 so not that busy, nice decor, we had a plate of olives also... More

We explained that we wanted a few drinks and a little tapas, but the waiter insisted on providing only the heavy evening menu, we ordered the shrimp special, (the waiter seemed put out at this), we ordered sangria and were charged a whopping 5.50 Euro per glass, the shrimp was also charged over the advertised price, tourist trap rip off,... Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
