After wandering around looking for a dinner option we settled on Asador Real. Were not disappointed. Friendly staff and delicious food. Shared a jug a sangria to wash it down. (€65 total bill) So good thinking about going back for lunch tomorrow! Recommend the lamb/pork with a side of grilled vegetables/house salad. Awesome food :)

We visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Service was great, very attentive. Starters to share of Pimientos Padron (Grilled peppers), Jamon (Ham) and Morcilla were superb. My steak was good and the wine excellent. All finished off with a coffee and limoncello.

A large, beautiful restaurant, just off the busy and tourist-filled Plaza de Isabel at the Opera. It was quite empty when we arrived around 9pm, too early for locals. By 10 or so we returned, and it was filling up. The cochinillo (roast baby pig, sorry) is amazing and reasonably priced. We had a group of 5 and the excellent... More

When googling what to eat in Madrid Cochinillo Asado (Roasted Pork) was on top of the list. Asador Real had a lot of good reviews for their Cochinillo Asado and we were not disappointed. The staff is attentive and the atmosphere is pleasant. I can definitely recommend.

We had really top class barbecue chorizo and fantastic suckling pig here! The service was faultless and friendly and the sangria was delicious. All the other customers were Spanish. Highly recommended!

We were looking for a place to taste good pork, prepared in the local Spanish tradition. The restaurant is located in the very heart of Central Madrid. We had a reservation, which was really good for the place gets really busy. The service was excellent, our server helped us choosing the right plates and quantity. We had the roasted piglet... More

I got to wait 40 minutes for the lamb ( they should tell to wait so much at the order moment); Salad it was very basic with powerful vinegar, Lamb good but not unforgettable, definitely to forget house red glass wine, definitely basic... If you are looking for a great place to eat incredible good meat then this is the place to go. The piglet was mouth watering and so tender that you did not even need a knife to cut it... It is not like the ones you could it in Segovia but the very next thing. Tapas are ok but maybe... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
