I come here by chance, and the place was very nice and cost benefit great. The pork (cochinillo), one of the specialities so tender. I recommend to try it in the offer coming for 2, including the appetizer and a Rioja bottle of wine!

Extremely crowded when I visited. Waited 15 minutes for a table and another 10 minutes before a waiter came and took my order. I reckon it is because today is All Saints Day and the streets of Madrid is full of people. Ordered salad, very matured sheep cheese, roasted suckling pig for two and a portion of roasted young lamb.... More

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner here food was great service was good. Standouts were the jamon, lomo and cheese plate and the suckling pig very juicy and tender. Portions are quite generous.

From recommendation by local, four of us went a little early for dinner. The place was empty. We had Iberica bellota jamon as eppitizer which I think was the best. We had a bottle of local Rioja Tempranillo wine. It was very good. For dinner, we had roasted tender pig, fish and vegetables dish for all of us. Overall, the... More

Dinner for 2 here was ok. Food did not come out at the same time, I was half way through my starters when my wife got hers. Grilled Seabass & baby pork chops for main. Very un-inspiring, my fish came on its own only & would be nice to let you know fish was not de-boned. Pork came with handful... More

After wandering around looking for a dinner option we settled on Asador Real. Were not disappointed. Friendly staff and delicious food. Shared a jug a sangria to wash it down. (€65 total bill) So good thinking about going back for lunch tomorrow! Recommend the lamb/pork with a side of grilled vegetables/house salad. Awesome food :)

We visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Service was great, very attentive. Starters to share of Pimientos Padron (Grilled peppers), Jamon (Ham) and Morcilla were superb. My steak was good and the wine excellent. All finished off with a coffee and limoncello.

A large, beautiful restaurant, just off the busy and tourist-filled Plaza de Isabel at the Opera. It was quite empty when we arrived around 9pm, too early for locals. By 10 or so we returned, and it was filling up. The cochinillo (roast baby pig, sorry) is amazing and reasonably priced. We had a group of 5 and the excellent... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
