One of my favourite restaurant chains of all time, I had to go to the madrid restaurant. Who can say no to a huge selection of 1 euro sandwiches and cheap beer? This franchise delivered what I expected from the chain, the usual great value brilliant sandwiches in the centre of Madrid.

Went for the Sunday 1 E/sandwich menu. The little hero sandwiches were not great - lots of stale bread, and a token amount of filling. The square bread was a little better, fillings the same. Weak, metallic tasting beer. Filled with 20 somethings who cannot afford better. Good if you need a beer and a sandwich or two for 3... More

They have a huge menu of tapas choices and even have 1 Euro sale on all tapas on Sunday's and Wednesday's. That makes it very easy to order a bunch of items to try. Yummy

I visited 4 of this chain of bars in Madrid city centre. One was a large single hall with a big open entrance hall full of uncomfortable wooden stools at tables. This wasn't a pleasant place to be, by contrast another bar was a small comfortable place with a nice seating area outside. All bars offer the same cheap drinks... More

100 Montaditos is not what Spaniards consider a tapas bar- though they do serve some types of tapas. 100 Montaditos is a popular Spanish chain known for its 1 Euro montaditos (bocadillos/little baguette sandwiches) with almost any toppings you could want. Great tinto de verano to drink and a plate of olives to share. The best cheap, filling eats in... More

We tried a lot of the little €1 sandwiches, a big salad at €2, a dessert montadito and they were all fabulous - wish I could've eaten all 100. Great variety, delicious and super cheap - really excellent, tasty spot!

Take a stroll west from Sol down the Calle Major and look out for this place on the way. Whilst not looking too promising initially, we decided to stay for a drink and some lunchtime nibbles. As the name suggests, there is a very large selection of tapas-type dishes on the menu from 1 euro each. Service is basic (go... More

Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
