We had lunch here. The menu del dia was an excellent choice, which Alessandra, our friendly and knowledgeable server helped us select. The food was served hot and the portions were ample. I had the pizza and my wife had the risotto. Both were delicious. The service was just right, not rushed but each course was served in a timely... More

Fabulous Italian food with a twist on a pedestrianised side street near the Playa Major. Came across it while walking in the city, saw the pizzas and decided that is where we are eating that evening. Was lucky to get a table outside. The food was so good we came back the second night. The waiter recommended a starter a... More

After some Tapas my wife and I were looking for an awesome Italian restaurant with outdoor seating to soak in the culture of Madrid. After some searching we stumbled on Malatesta. Very friendly environment with plenty of delicious options on the menu. When we ordered, we asked for the house red, but the waiter (Alex) brought us a bottle of... More

This is a beautiful little restaurant tucked away down a side street. Wonderful atmosphere if you are sitting outside (which you pay for). The food was excellent but unfortunately the service was not as good. We had one lovely waitress but unfortunately all the others were not very attentive and in fact seemed to avoid eye contact. We had to... More

We at at the Malatesta on two occasions (a dinner and a lunch), and enjoyed the food both times. This restaurant seems to always be busy - even when the ones around it are not. We went the first time for a change from Spanish cuisine. We had nice salad followed by a terrific pizza. It was good enough to... More

I went there with my wife guided by the high tripadvisor rating which is obviously a mistake or even a fraud. we got a table in the street which was nice, but as it turned out later, they charged us 3.1 EUR for that, needless to say nobody said that in advance. We asked for the drinks and my wife... More

If you want small portion, expensive price, dirty dishes and very slow and bad service, than go to this place. Also you should pay extra 3,1€ if you want to sit outside the cafe on the street (they don't even tell about it before you seat, just include to the receipt). They give to me and my boyfriend dirty glases... More

On a lovely old curving pedestrianised street we sat outside. Service was excellent and attentive. I had an excellent Pizza Bufalina and my wife loved her Gnocchi Bolognesa. Our 2 desserts would be worth visiting the restaurant for alone with a glass of wine.We had the Torta Caprese di Cio and the Millefoglie. We had a glass of red Montepulciano... More

Had the shrimp ravioli and loved it. Everyone else in my party, 3 more, enjoyed it as well and my sister even got a pasta to go just because it was great! Service was good and polite. Definitely recommend this place if you're craving pasta (freshly made)

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
