We were enjoying today's evening on terrace and was impressed by the quality of service. Burrata was just awesome. Limoncello as a complement was unexpected, tasty and very nice.

I have been with my family and ordered ravioli, gnocchi, spagetti, two chicken breast, two beers and two bottles of water. The bill was €83.80. We were surprised to find a service charge of €7.60. No notice of this charge was displayed anywhere. We came to this restaurant because the website said thatthe day menu was €12.90 with 4 apetisers,... More

It's good opportunity to taste Italian food. The surround it's comfortable and the service it's confidence. Don't forgot to get the tiramisu hand made, absolutely delicious.

After 4 days in Madrid and many excellent meals, we were delighted with the food and service at Trattoria Malatesta. We are regular followers of Tripadvisor recommendations and we were delighted that the rave reviews were spot on. The house wine -- chilled red- was excellent and all of our pasta dishes were fresh and delicious.

Food is good. We failed to make reservation, our mistake. Food came out quickly but seemed hard to get a server to our table for additional drinks and even to get the check. But they were busy, and our server seemed to have ten tables or more, I think I can cut him some slack, though that seems totally unamerican.... More

We turned down the small café-lined side street looking for a place to dine, and knowing in advance that this highly rated trip advisor restaurant was located here. Every seat in every other café was full, however this restaurant was empty. Completely empty! We soon discovered it was not open for another 1/2 hour, but we decided to sit down... More

The food was pretty good, not extraordinary. I would go back. The basement where we ate was a bit hot.

Malatesta was one of the few restaurants where the Waiters were not as annoying as at other restaurants. They walked with you to convince you to have dinner at theirs. This is one reason why we went here! Once we sat down we had our drinks within a short moment, the food was also made very Fast and fresh. We... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
