Stopped here on a whim after walking around and found some great paella and very cold beer. The servers were lovely and we enjoyed a great afternoon break.

We happened upon Cerveceria La Mayor on our way back to our hotel one evening, and what a find it was! It's a small (tiny) bar decorated with beer bottles and memorabilia from around the world, but the really astounding thing is the selection of beer (there seems to be a focus on Belgian) they carry. I tend to make... More

I walked past this place and noticed they had Westvleteren 12 in the window. The best beer in the world and nowhere other than a pub in Belgium sells it. I just had to check this place out. We went in and sat in the window and had a great time we decided to come back. Very cool spot!

Great service. Walking distance from the Royal Palace. Beers from all around the world. A great place to refresh yourself with a nice cold beer after a long walk.

In general it's a very cute cerveceria with a nice design inside and wonderful windows, just around the corner from the Royal Palace. They offer a big choice of beers and tapas, but paella is not their best thing in my opinion. Waiters have a bit confused our order and also we had to wait for it quite long, but... More

My friend and I loved this place. We stopped in for the 11.50 euro paella and drink deal. We definitely got our money's worth. The staff was friendly and the food was great. I would recommend this place to a friend. Try the sangria!

We found this place a few blocks off the tourist section. It definitely had a more local feel as a priest came in while we were there. It is very small so we sat at the bar which was perfect of us. It has a wide variety of beer and only a couple of wine options. We had a couple... More

Loved it in here! The beer menu was overwhelming but the bar staff were helpful in pointing us towards something that would suit our taste. Good music, friendly service and a lively atmosphere - what more can you want from a bar?!

The sangria was very tasty. We tried the menu para dos. It's was very good and nicely priced at 24.95euro. This place is quaint and it's close to the palace. Service was very friendly.

Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
