We ate here once but frequented the bar most evenings during our stay. The food is ok - nothing to rave about - but the staff are great. Very friendly and entertaining. You don't really need to eat - just order drinks and they keep bringing you tapas! Free drinks when you TRY to leave and more food!

We found it through Trip Advisor so expected it to be good. We had just spent a long day doing galleries, museums and the usual tourist stuff. We were hungry and passed dozens of restaurants trying very hard to tempt us. We resisted until we found the Alhambra and its fantastic tiled exterior. There was a very Spanish bar type... More

Like it a lot. Prices are fine for the food and wine. Please be carefull beacuse portions are big. For two take salad and main course. It is enough.

The food was great. Paella was great! The "raciones" portions were huge!! The sangria was ehh very weak and I've had better here. Cute traditional Spanish bar. Friendliest people I've encountered in any restaurant or bar during my stay

We paid 25 euros for two big plates and a bottle of wine. The food was good (paella and calamaries), the wine too. The waiter was very nice. We had two shooters with the boss (and the waiter) before leaving, that they offered... they proposed us another (free) glass of wine, but we had to go. we were really surprised... More

Quite cheap restaurant. Normal but enough paella mixta, very good and big tortilla and wonderful La Rioja wines. Bread is included. Very funny waiters

So good we ate here 3 days in a row on the menu del dia: 10.50 euros for starter main dessert bread and drinks or 7.50 euros minus starter course. Substantial portions, well cooked using good quality ingredients: paella with plenty of seafood, decent sized steaks, plate of 8 good sized prawns and seafood pasta were the highlights for us,... Taberna Alhambra didnt look like much from outside but hubby and I were happy that we did our homework and found this place. We dined pretty early, compare to locals, but it also ensured that we always got a table. This place gives you complimentary chicken wings as soon as you are seated and we were quite happy with the... More

I found it incredible that a restaurant this reasonably priced with such good, solid food is so close to the touristy Puerta Del Sol. We have easily spent triple what we spent here at other restaurants in the area, and their food wasn't as good as Alhambra's. We spent a total of E26 for dinner on two people and that... More

Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
