Delicious, good quality food for a reasonable price. Excelent service, welcoming and helpful staff. A great place to come by and visit again and again. It was recommended to us by a friend and we haven't regeretted a minute or a penny spent there! We were told to order some of the raciones and share and indeed it was way more than 3 very hungry ladies could eat :-)
El Madroño Liquor at the end of the meal- a real cherry on top!

The sangria is some of the best I had during our trip to Spain. The bonus of the Manchego cheese served with the drinks was great. I had the pollo (chicken) which was cooked just right. My wife had the fish and totally enjoyed it. The outside seating area is on the corner of a street that is not very busy, which makes for a nice dinner location. The service was good and had just the right pace for a very pleasant meal experience.

We visited this classically Spanish bar on two separate days of our holiday and both times were excellent! When we first came we were welcomed in early afternoon to have some drinks staff very friendly and encouraging with my progressing Spanish ( the raciones we had was great). Our last night in Madrid we decided to come back for some drinks in the evening and sat outside. The waiter Carlos looked after us perfectly and when we started to get a bit cold, he welcomed us in to sit inside for some more beers.
We decided to ask to sit at a table for a meal and nothing was too much trouble for him. He was a great waiter and everything we ate was so good, he sorted us out with some dessert and a free shot of kirsch to finish our meal. Carlos and Jaoqium ( I’m sorry for the spelling but I hope hel know!) are both so friendly and professional and they will do everything to look after you! See you again soon 👍🏼

Good lunch spot in Madrid. A place with a Madrid flavor. Very nice traditional restaurant. Service is really nice. Both on the terrace and inside you can taste authentic dishes made of good ingredients. Homemade food and excellent service.

Food wasn’t very good and was pretty expensive. Salad was made of iceberg lettuce; not nutritional. Meats were tough and tasteless; chicken was dried out…service was good and location outside nice - next time will only come for drinks!

The caballeros ignored us completely and made fun about us. The food was disastrous. Poor salad and raw meat. We had to wait very long for every little bit of attention of the waiter. And - it was expensive!

Excellent service and good food. I had the cod Portuguese style and my husband had the entrecote steak. It was a lovely touch to be served their complementary liquor in a chocolate lined cone cup.

My twin brother Stephen and I visited El Madrono Tapa Bar to sample a unique drink in a bar that is named in honour of this drink.
The bar itself is superb,an authentic traditional Spanish interior, a lived in look,a solid wood serving bar, great decor and furnishings, fabulous tiled motifs all housed in a good looking building, theres also plenty of seating options spread throughout this bar both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling Plaza De Puerta Cerrada.
As temperatures were hitting the mid 30's we sat outside, a very pleasant member of staff took our order of a Madrono each, this drink is unique, it's a liquor made from strawberries ( madrono ) served in a glass made of pastry, its basically a waffle glass ,the interior of the waffle glass is coated in chocolate and filled with madrono liquor, it's such a delicious drink and when we finished our drink as is the custom you eat the waffle glass.
We really enjoyed our madrono drink in here and the great atmosphere so much so that we ended up staying for another one each before we moved on and for a first time visit to this bar we had a great time.
El Madrono Tapa Bar is easy to locate on Plaza De Puerta Cerrada, in an area teeming with pubs, bars and restaurants.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Friday, 9.30am till 1.30am.
Saturday & Sunday, 9.30am till 2am.
A great bar, well worth checking out if your in the area.

If you want to know how is the ancient Madrid and how they consider "Ir de Tapas"... you must be there. You will be welcomed with a very Spanish Bar-Man and you will enjoy a dinner with Tapas and fresh beer!

We stopped for a quick bite and a drink. There are plenty of tables outside to enjoy the weather and people watch. We enjoyed a nice platter of cheese and bread. Located steps from the Plaza Mayor.

We stopped for a snack while sightseeing around town. The location is good and everyone looked like they were enjoying their food, so we took a seat. Service was good and friendly. Our drinks were served promptly and our food shortly after. We enjoyed our food and all the dishes served around us looked good. Great people watching location. We would go back.

We were there for lunch the other day.... beef was "cut in the wrong direction" -- though they tried to make it medium...dorada was MIA so they offered different fish... which was... not so good... OK, it was not VERY GOOD, it was a bit less than good...
Melon was good while ice cream was... average....
so, when it all come to the grade... it would be a bit above average... but... if you asked me -- would I go back... NO I would not.... I would seek another place to try....

Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
