I stopped by here by chance on my way back to my hostel and it was a really nice pub! They do food, have pub 'booths' which isn't common in Spain and had champions league footie on the TV which was nice. Even got a free plate of olives! The staff are EXCELLENT. I will definitely return!

Despite the female waitress having a bit of an attitude problem, the food was good and the dish of the day deal very good value for money. Nice ambience and central location. Service was slow.

The staff in this place are great and very forthcoming. The cafe is located close to the very busy streets surrounding Plaza Mayor and Sol, but this place is a great retreat from all the fuss. The looks are of classic English pubs, the food also has that traditional pub feeling to it, and the variety of beer and vine... More

We stumbled upon this little restaurant that looks like a pub. We were a little turned off by the photo menus at the Plaza Mayor outdoor restaurants. This restaurant is right around the corner. They offered a 10 Euro complete lunch that included three courses and a drink (beer, wine, etc). While the price was so low, the quality and... More

Super delicious sangria and a great place to stop and watch a Real Madrid game. The bar is from the 1800s - you can almost picture yourself there!

This bar has a real feel of an Irish pub but is a very friendly Spanish bar and restaurant. The menu of the day is only €10 and has an excellent choice. The selection is different daily and includes 3 courses. There is an alternative menu which also has an excellent selection. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. We kept... More

fairly ordinary bar centrally located. Football on the TV. Waitress could not have been friendlier. Reasonably priced. However I ordered paella and spent all Monday night and all day Tuesday vomiting and/ or in bed. Rice, seafood and chicken are notorious if not properly cooked. It was probably a reheat job. I've always enjoyed paella but my experience was so... More

I've been to this place over and over again over the past four years. I arrived in Madrid this morning and went to lunch there this afternoon. Their "menu del dia" or lunch specials is the best 10 euros you'll ever spend. You receive a starter, main dish, dessert and drink in the price. Great food and nice staff.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
