I agree with one of the previous reviews that says 'don't let the exterior fool you' - we very nearly didn't go in but I'm very glad we did! It was our first evening in Madrid - we were starving and ready to dive into some tapas. We couldn't have chosen a better place to start. We arrived at about... More

The restaurant is small and has a very simple dining area but the food id anything but simple with a modern take on Tapas as well as main dishes. The waiter was very helpful assisting us with our selection from the menu. Particularly loved the beef tenderloin.

Good spot for tapas near el Rastro. Tried the foie with fig jam and it was to die for. I went in early and it was rather empty but it was soon filled up with locals.

Open from noon until midnight this contemporary take on Spanish tapas is excellent. It is mainly eat at the counter bar style and some dishes are under glass on the counter for you to view. A local recommended we come here for the foie (which is the proper door medallion, not pate de froies gras) and the tortilla (which was... More

Great but kinda expensive, the staff was quite bad at their English and the portion sizes were small, but still that's why it's called tapas! 8.5/10 would come again

Went there early and started chatting with the bartender Christopher. His recommendations on the menu were spot on, the food orgasm with the Secreto Iberico was not a lie. We came back for his kindness and food expertise, we finish the second time on a wonton Mille-feuille of ox tail and fresh liver, again amazing! Thanks Christopher!

Had an amazing dining experience at this place. Was walking through La Latina just shy of the dinner rush, and Txirimiri (which as recommended by a friend) was pretty quiet. But 10 minutes into being seated, the small restaurant started to fill up quickly. Food was excellent all around, but standouts were: the veal cheeks (perfectly cooked, and FULL of... More

After one year I returned to Madrid and eat 4 days in a row in this basque tavern, I had the foie every time, as well the olives pinchos, this time I tried the gulas with lettuce, and we tried to try almost all the menu...everything was amazing. I have to go there again next year!

We visited this restaurant based on the recommendation of well-known tourist guide and it was really a good decision. This Basque style restaurant offers familiar atmosphere and very tasty meals. We tried Fajita chicken with grilled vegetables and a touch of curry, mushroom risotto with foie and Pedro Ximenez and Pintxos tasting hot dish „Classic Txirimiri“ and all those dishes... More

My husband and I had an absolutely amazing meal at Tximiri. We got the Secreto Ibérico a la plancha con caramelo de mostaza,

Staying in La Latina

Neighborhood Profile
La Latina
La Latina is a charming neighborhood with two unique personalities. At first glance, it’s distinctly old-world, with narrow streets weaving a maze among charming stone buildings in sunny, bright colors like yellow and pink. The other side of La Latina is characterized by a young population and a bohemian vibe, as evidenced by a dynamic and evolving selection of new bars, shops, coworking spaces, and other businesses popping up in the area. In the northern part of the neighborhood, the Cava Alta and Cava Baja streets constitute the tapas center of Madrid, where each age-old restaurant serves up distinctive specialties like huevos rotos and patatas bravas. Locals have come here for generations to while away hours over drinks and tapas with friends. On Sundays and public holidays, the streets to the south of La Latina metro station transform into a giant open-air market full of locals sifting through tent after tent of art, apparel, and antiques. Any day of the week, the intriguing blend of the traditional and the hip make the streets of La Latina worth exploring.
