About
The Brainchild of The Hunter twins – Andy and John, the Lord Nelson was opened to pay homage to one of the British Navy’s Greatest leaders, Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté KB. The themed bar/bistro was designed to emulate HMS Victory, with sails & rigging as well as pictures and memorabilia taking locals and tourist alike back in time 200 years to the age of the battle of Trafalgar. Set in the historic Grand Casemates Barracks, the restaurant was one of the first to open in the redeveloped limestone barracks in 2001. It has traditionally been since then THE place to go for live music or to watch sports or even just for a drink or a meal. The restaurant serves a full menu with local favourites, traditional English pub grub as well as a fusion of exotic foods from around the world. We have a well stocked wine cellar to accompany the food, and you will find a selection of cool lagers and best bitters to quench your thirst on a hot summer day.

We arrived in Gibraltar for a 4 day break fairly late and stumbled across this pub wanting something to eat, by the time we had bag dropped at our hotel and walked into town we were ravenous but being late on a Sunday not everywhere was open. We came across this place tucked away in the corner of a square. The waitress informed us that the kitchen was closing soon so we weren't expecting much in the way of a gourmet meal. Ordered vegan burger and chips and to be honest were expecting a plate of the usual pub-grub greasy slop... how wrong we were. The burger was the best we have tasted - EVER! (I admit to asking the waitress if the burger really was vegan, it´s getting to the point these days that they can look and taste like a cow burger) It came in a brioche bun and was topped with an avocado sauce and jalapeños, and the chips were sweet potato fries, everything cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. I´m not the sort to write many reviews but the meal was so good this place really deserves a mention. PLEASE don´t take this off the menu or change the chef as we will be be back again soon. Lovely pub, outside seating area and nice staff. Will definitely go back.

Many thanks for the oustanding review! I’ve shared your feedback with the team. The meat in the burger is from a specialized vegan brand called 'Beyond Meat'. Their name is very suggestive ;)
We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit!

Beer was cold and the food plenty-full and filling. The bar staff are very friendly and prompt when ordering bringing the food and drinks ordered. Definitely one of the pubs you should have on your to visit list when going to Gibraltar.

First bar we came across and instantly was made welcome by Tanya one of the bar staff. We went there every day for food and was very happy on day 2 we me Mel the manager and we instantly hit it off as she couldn't do enough to make our visit special even to the point of picking wine. She really knew her stuff. The bar is clean and safe and all staff wear masks when serving.

We stopped in this pub because it was raining buckets and we just wanted a drink and be out of the rain for a while. We did not have any expectations, except to get a decent drink and dry out a bit.
When we entered the place was very quiet, yet it took a while to get drinks because of language issues: we think we spoke understandable English but apparently we did not. Finally we got a beer and a glass of decent wine.
In the meantime the place started to fill up with groups of people, some coming in to escape the rain, others to have a meal. I did not fancy eating here because the place is darkish and not really appealing, like most old-fashioned pubs.
When a boisterous group of youngsters came in to have dinner we decided to leave. On the whole a rather unremarkable pub, albeit very patriotic.

Lamb kofta & Fish & Chips our first night's dinner here & by far the worst meal of our stay in Gibraltar.
Fish was supposed to have been "halibut". I don't think the writers of the menu know the difference between halibut and haddock apart from "h" being the first letter of each species. The batter was saturated in stale cooking oil and with each mouthful I knew I'd need a handful of indigestion tablets if I'd have continued. Lamb kofta was just ok and most likely mass produced. On the plus side the chips were good and the G&T's generous.

Spent the evening in the Lord Nelson. Wasn't sure what I wanted to eat but they were so flexible I was able to mix and match and had a meal that was perfect. Melanie seems to run the show and doesn't stop. She spots when you're ready for another order and adds a warm and friendly touch to the pub. We shall be back. Thank you.

This is a very good English style pub and the menu reflects this type of food.
Called a couple of times and once had chicken wings while my wife had some chips-nice home made thick type and not the thin fries you often get.Very quick service.
Good atmosphere here with a choice of beers, largers and Cider and they were preparing for a disco one night.
There is an outside area, with a kennel where a cat lives.

We visited with another couple for a late lunch and enjoyed a pint and wine. Although the pub was not very busy at he time the server was pleasant and efficient. We all ordered the fish and chips and the batter was crispy and not greasy . It came with plenty of chips which were fried just right, mushy peas and tartar sauce
The fish order was more than plentiful and excellent tasting All in all a great meal

We only went to Gibraltar for a weekend and visited this Bar 3 times! Friendly service from Carlos and Mel was great on Saturday evening when we had our picnic of starters with a bottle of wine. Our dinner elsewhere the night before was poor, but this was so much better. Highly recommend the nachos, chicken wings and onion rings!

Lord Nelson's is a staple Gibraltar bar with a super friendly atmosphere, it's my personal favourite. The staff are all incredibly friendly and attentive and the manager Mario is very welcoming with a great energy and sense of humour and you really feel looked after. The atmosphere is so friendly that it's very common for guests to end up chatting with neighbouring tables on the terrace and tourists and locals mingle nicely here. Thursday nights are open mic night and people are invited to sing and jam together, its a lot of fun. Overall this would be my top recommendation for someone visiting Gib, make sure you stop for a drink at Lordy's.

Only disappointed I didn’t find this place sooner. Food came out well presented and was absolutely lovely. Would recommend people to try the chicken curry as it was 10/10. Polite and respectful bar staff , and a lovely theme inside. Good value for money

We stumbled across the bar, and ended up making it the place to dine and drink throughout our time in Gib. Drinks all reasonably priced and food is off excellent value. The cod and chips is huge and cooked to perfection, our group of five tried most of the menu and never had a bad meal or anything to complain about.
Highly recommend..
