At 8pm we were seated and the tiny room was already full. There was only one waiter and he was very abrupt and hurried. We ordered shrimp, Gallego soup and cheese. The soup was mostly broth and very bland. The meal was overpriced and poor...quality.More

People queue to get into this popular venue. Very lively convivial atmosphere. Swift cheerful service and the seafood, in particular, is delicious.

The best place to properly eat Galicia in the whole Santiago. I could be having there all my meals during the stay - simply perfect (and unpretentious) *****

Great simple place. No fuss so don’t expect fine dining. Mainly seafood dishes but some meat. All cooked simply and well at great prices. Queue was not too bad as we got there at opening time and were part of the first wave let in....The empanada (sardine?) was especially delicious.More

A hole in the wall full of locals and which served delicious and affordable Galician seafood. Perfect first lunch right after arriving in Santiago de Compostela post-camino! It could get a bit noisy, and the line for seating could get long, but definitely worth it!...The pulpo, mussels, and cockles were fresh and yummy.More

Visited due to the great reviews and to try the percebes. Service was very busy but friendly. The mussels were excellent although we're on the fence about the percebes. The chorizo al vino tinto was good but I personally prefer fresh chorizo. All in all...a good meal - would visit again for other seafood.More

Come early to avoid huge queue. The food is good, octopus was very tender, but I wouldn't say it's worth the fuss. Good, no doubts, but not the most delicious meal in your life, and pretty simple.

Good service, good location for the Church. The food was ok. A plate of boiled shrimp and a piece of sardine pie, with water was 25 Euros. This is strictly snack type food to have with wine or beer. Not really a meal...I think 25...Euros is high for "not a meal". I am not sure why people would mark this "cheap eats".More

This is an extremely busy little restaurant serving fabulous fish tapas. Get their early as fills up very quickly. Only a few tables. Full of locals as well as tourists, which for such a touristy place says something. The food is really delicious & inexpensive....I go here every time in Santiago de Compostela so have visited four times & it has never disappointed.More

Order all the seafood. It was amazing. Its a tiny spot so show up right when they open if you want a table. Food was great and loved the barnacles once the owner showed us how to eat them. Black food isn't very appetizing but...it was one of my most favorite things to eat in Spain!More

Based on reviews and recommendations by locals I decided to go to this authentic Galician tavern. I mean the tables are tiny, the counter is basic and made of marble, wine is poured into a glass mug from barrels and service is 'traditional' . There...is no way to book so it is best to arrive 5-10 minutes before and make sure no-one queue jumps. The food is good but I have tasted as good if not better in other places at Santiago . The prices are very reasonable and good value. There is nothing special except to experience a tavern that refuses to tart up for tourists - this is the traditional authentic Galician eating place and for that they are to commended . Go there for the vibe not for the food.More

If you like authentic Galician food and wine come here. It helps to throw in a few Galician words too ☺️ The place is small but very homely, the food is absolutely amazing, once you have one plate, you keep asking for mas mas Be...prepared to wait as this is very popular now, it used to be a hidden gem, stick with it and you won’t be let down. An absolute must when In SantiagoMore

Though it is quite small and always crowded I highly recommend O Gato Negro. You probably wouldn’t go into this “extremely basic” restaurant unless you have a friend who knows where to send you for the freshest shellfish and other seafood with some of the...lowest prices in Santiago De Compostela. You would not describe this place as “elegant”, but the fact that it is always crowded speaks volumes. This is one of the City’s “in” places for those in the know.More

It is a must if you come to Santiago. Locals will tell you stories about its fame and long history, about its great food and the overly dynamic ambience. All is true: food is exquisite, service is great (considering how busy this place is at...all times), the prices friendly and the atmosphere great. However, as more and more tourists are thronging to get in, it might become increasingly commercial. Already the fast-food feeling (you need to rush to let others come in) is strong. Hope the place will remain true to its name for as long as possible. Remember though that this is a seafood place: those who don't like seafood dishes might struggle here.More

We ate here on our first night and it was just superb. Its hidden away and you have to wait for a table, but this is art of the fun. When seated you are taken back in time and the food is just excellent. There...are no frills but the food and wine is just first class. Staff are extremely friendly and they offer help if you are a first time visitor. Try the local wine which is served in a bowl...FAB! Also the octopus here is amazing.More
