a beautiful place, decent food and service

The Gran Cafe is a beautiful, traditional restaurant. Everything about it is good, but not great: the food, the service, and the prices. You can find better food at lower prices in the neighborhood, the the ambiance will not be as pleasant.

I visited in October 2015 (twice) whilst on a break with a friend, and again in January with my husband - who I wanted to take there to show him how wonderful it was. We were not disappointed. True old world charm in the heart of Barcelona, with excellent professional slick service that belongs to another era. The menu comprises... More

We found this restaurant occidentally, looking for a place to have dinner. It is located away from the main street. It looked a little bit vintage outside. So, after looking through the menu, we decided to eat there. Staff was extremely friendly and efficient. We did not have to wait for a very long time for our food. Immediately, waitress... More

Nothing trendy here, just old-fashioned cooking done very well. The wine list has Artadi wines, difficult to find in the US, and not always on restaurant lists even in Spain. The piano player up in the second floor balcony isn't too loud and will take requests. Most of the diners when we've been there appear to be locals.

We live in Barcelona and we were surprised to find this restaurant in the touristy area of Barcelona. We went on "Reyes" and it was attended by many Catalan families. Food and services were good. It's quite a 'conservative' or traditional place in style and culinary experience which was a nice change from the touristy tapas and fusion food overpopulating... More

We found this lovely Restaurant while strolling around the Gothic Quarter and we were so glad we did. We had the set Dinner menu and it was great value. There was a piano player on the upper level which really added to the atmosphere. The service was first class. Would definitely return.

Stumbled on this restaurant by chance, and glad we did. The decor is very classy and lovely atmosphere with the pianist. Food and drink are excellent and very reasonably priced. If this was in London it would be ££££! Worth going if you have something to celebrate or want to dress up slightly on holiday.

We only stopped for dessert and port, but it was spectacular. They have a dessert that is green olive cake topped with black olive ice cream and I don't think I've had a better dessert in my life. The chocolate gelato my daughter had was so rich and delicious she couldn't even finish it (and being 13 years old she... More
