We came across the name of this restaurant by researching the barcelonafoodexperience dot com blog. It's tucked away approximately 1.6 km from the city center or 800 meters from our hotel (Casa Camper). What a find!!!! Melinda (front) and her brother Rueben (kitchen) operate this...family restaurant. You are encouraged to select a starter from the menu (we selected artichokes), but best to choose an entree from the specials to be assured the best and freshest meal . . . we selected empanadas as a second starter and a cuttlefish (squid) with curry for our main entree (split all three). Prices are very reasonable, quality of service is most attentive and helpful . . . the dinner preparation was excellent. The neighborhood appeared a bit sketchy at first blush . . . but, all show and no go. There is nothing to fear, but fear itself. We arrived in the area about 30 minutes ahead of the restaurant's 20:30 evening opening and spent enjoyed a cerveza watching soccer and a neighboring bar. The only disappointment were the desserts, which were not prepared in their own kitchen and, instead outsourced to a food supplier. Total cost for the meal that included two starters, an entree, a bottle of Syrah and dessert amounted to $66.59 US.More

Las Fernandez was by a restaurant that was to busy to take us! Im very glad we got the oppourtunity to eat here, even if my partner felt a little uneasy on these back streets. We were greeted by a lovely spanish lady who helped...us through the menu and the specials, her attitude was wonderful and she only leftvus once she knew we were happy. The Cod was fantasticly cooked and presented with the perfect quantity. For pudding i had a pudding themed on the Mojito, which was brilliant and unique. The Prices and quality are fantastic in comparison to the ramblas and tourist packed streets.More

The staff were great, happy to translate the specials (twice). The food was really nice; we had ricotta and basil ravioli and the black spaghetti seafood. Really enjoyed our visit

Staff, ambient and sangria were good, but the chef must have a very subjective view on food: the anchovies (starter) were fridge cold, the raw salmon dish was served as sushi sitting next to raw vegetables with no dressing. A real disappointment!

A friend recommended this place to me and despite not feeling like I wanted to eat typical Spanish food that evening (being a vegetarian isn't the best food experience in a non-veggie restaurant in Spain) but I was so glad I did! There were plenty...of vegetarian tapas including Mushrooms with Cheese and Almonds crust, Artichokes with Romesco sauce, a fancy version of Patatas Bravas plus plenty more options. The portions are pretty huge too so I was well fed and the free xupito at the end of the meal was a nice touch. The decor is charmingly shabby chic and the ambient is lively with a fun vibe - this place is the typical Barcelona I know and love!More

In many ways a first rate restaurant/tapas bar. It looks shabby from the outside but the quality of food is great and the prices excellent. Off the beaten track, frequented by locals or tourists ‘in the know’, it’s worth trying even if it’s relatively hard...to find. Off las Ramblas de Raval, a very colourful area. Try everything available in tapas. Great service too.More

Was unsure about this place at first. The decor is very dated and rundown. I thought that I'm definitely not going to enjoy my food. I got convinced to give it a chance and I was pleasantly surprised! The staff were amazing. Our waiter was...so helpful: he translated the whole menu for us Twice! Before our food came out, we got served some appetizers on the house with complimentary bread that you can choose not to eat if you don't want go be charged for it, but that's specified clearly on the menu! The food was very tasty and traditional, exactly what we wanted, the wine super cheap and nice! Overall great experience; glad we gave it a chance; the decor definitely needs an update!More

I may be dithyrambic, but all, absolutely everything has seduced us in this restaurant. The decoration, atmosphere, hospitality, quality, quantity and freshness of food, availability, very fair prices, and above all, above all, the passion that animates the whole team when it comes to you...explain the contents of the card. Special mention to Amparo, with whom the current is so well passed that she now honors us with her friendship, Frank and me. In short, the "Las Fernandes" is all Spain that I love. Finally, a little caress friendly for Brouno, the nice and affectionate labrador who welcomed us with a mega "lechote" ..More

If you liked any of the great restaurants that sprang up in New York's East Village back when it was a bad neighborhood two and three decades ago, you'll love this place. The food is delicious, and the vibe is funky and charmingly raffish. Be...aware though that it is in a down at heels section of Barcelona. But...we got a lot of yummy, filling, home-cooked food for very little money. We loved it.More

Based on recommendations online we went by the restaurant without a reservation which in low season was not a problem. One of the owners explained the specials in English to us , she was very patient. We had the pasta to start which was really...tasty, and the cod and steak special. Both mains were so delish and well crafted. The Catalan wine recommended was a great accompaniment. We were too full for dessert or coffee but complementary "shots" were offered to finish -lemonchello and kahula. Highly recommended. Great value. Must go.More

Been there twice, had meal at the bar as the place is always fully booked. Everything tasted well. All kinds of rather "fancy" tapas were surprisingly good. Highly recommend.

We have to mention the unbelievable friendly waiter first. He looked unconventional in his tanktop but was the friendliest one we met in all Barcelona! He explained the daily menu in detail and in English. Than he recommended a great wine and offered a great...service. The food pasta and fish were great as well. We came here twice since we enjoyed it so much.More

Las fernandez is a fav of mine in Barcelona, and the revamped menu has pushed it up a notch or 10! We dined there Saturday evening, and as usual had a fantastic dinner. Artichokes to start and pulled pork for second course. Great services, atmosphere....This place never fails!More
