Txapela...
A piece of the Basque Country in the middle of Barcelona downtown.

Txapela is an authentic "euskal taberna" where our bars are full of PINTXOS, elaborated with the best ingredients with Protected Designation of Origin. And what a better pairing than a good glass of Txakoli, a Txikito of Basque Cider, while enjoying a sunbath in our terrace!

Unique experience, casual dining

Most of the tapas are pre-made and out for you to view, with numbers and descriptions. No menu in English, so it's nice that you can see everything and pick what looks good. Service was friendly, and prices were good. Close to La Pedrera and Casa Batllo.

In a city that has tapas shops all over I would skip this one and something else worthy. Service and food was subpar, just dissatisfied with the whole experience.

Tapas are delicious, the staff is polite & welcoming. Maybe too much choice of tapas and we were a lil bit lost but the waiter gave us some advices & we really enjoyed our dinner.

We sat down at the bar for tapas and watched as the staff washed glasses and unpacked dishes in front of us without talking to us or offering anything. When we got up to walk out they seemed astonished.

50-odd tapas choices is more than ample and our impromptu lunch stop at the surprisingly spacious Txapela was just what our party of 8 needed after a morning's sightseeing. Service was fast end efficient and the wide ranging tapas selection had something for everyone. The jugs of sangria definitely hit the spot too!

We were looking for a nice place to eat tapas and this is one of the best. Of course it's in the tourist area, but they have a wonderful selection of tapas.

We came back to Txapela twice. With a brilliant concept of fresh good food, tapas, size on a baguette piece. Great service and everything tastes so good. Location is brilliant right ne placa Catalunya. Fun 1.8euro-3euro little dishes. Have fun :)

Overall — 2,5/5. Well, it's a tourist trap, unless you are just having a beer or coffee. Most Spanish tapas are not something I personally enjoy (except for simple jamon iberica type), so that's why I give it a low rating. The atmosphere is fine though.

Staying in Eixample

Neighborhood Profile
Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognizable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognized architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
