I have been eating in Romesco since 1991 and thoroughly recommend it for hearty Catalan cooking at an unbelievably low price. Nothing has changed in 25 years - it's the same friendly welcome from familiar faces. I love this place!

This little restaurant just off the beaten track is a great experience. Delicious food, friendly and helpfull staf guarantee for a memorable dinner. Do not expect romantic scenes or posh interior, but tasty food for a good price.

My boyfriend and I searched and searched for a restaurant to go to on our first night in Barcelona and we were seriously not disappointed. The food was amazing. We had the squid heads, rabbit leg and squid legs with rice, along with ththe creme Catalana. This was truly a hidden gem because there no hype. We are definitely planning... More

We had this restaurant recommended but walked past it thought it was a take out. Fabulous quick local cuisine at a seriously good price. Definitely would come again. Don't expect candlelights or table cloths but expect very good food

Wanted to celebrate our last day in Barcelona in a special place, but it was raining. Wife found this place on internet, not far from our hotel on la rambla. Walked over, took one look and walked away, as it was very plain, almost sad looking. I wanted a more upscale experience for our last night. After discussing more, went... More

Doesn't matter how hard they try to make the whole of Barcelona a hipster heaven, this place will survive EVERYTHING...good food, friendly service and very colourful atmosphere make it a must when around the Raval area.

Like being invited to dinner at someone's home. Locals place although very close to Las Ramblas. Excellent food. Big portions. Low prices. No atmosphere (LOL). Friendly wait staff/probably the owners. Daily specials as well as fixed menu. Easy Metro access. We had salad, main courses, & TWO desserts. Highly recommend.

We read about this place in our guide book and it said the waiters were rude. We found the exact opposite. We sat up at the bar to take our meal - I had Lamb's brain which was actually half a lamb's head, absolutely delicious but don't let it put you off, there are other more traditional dishes, too. Our... More

Although next to the Ramblas this venue really offers something for people that want to explore the real Catalunya. Here's not much attention given to design or interior, but rather on an authentic food experience. No music. No deco. Lots of locals. Great taste. Cheapest beer in barcelona (i guess)! Full recommendation!

After waiting unsuccessfully for an interminable period to eat at seafood stalls in the market, I asked a butcher at a market stall where she went to eat in the local area and she recommended Restaurant Romesco. Welcomed upon entry, I was quickly seated. The daily menu had a nice variety and I went for the gazpacho, tuna steak, and... More

Staying in El Raval

Neighborhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
