Go there for seafood and local atmosphere. There are 2 identical places next to each other: apparently one for locals and other more for tourists. I've been to a smaller one which got crowded with locals- fresh seafood, fair price, nice service. Highly recommend!

Jaica was closed (permanently, it seems) and we found Jai-ca Bar about one block away. Place is very simple and full of locals. Loved their home made vermouth!

Popped in at about 5pm for a quick drink - and due to time of day it was really quiet. Didn't expect to be able to order food as a bit late for lunch and certainly far too early for dinner! But the tapas selection looked so good we thought we'd try our luck. They made us a plate of... More

Brilliant food. Great (cheap) wine. Totally fresh and authentic. Barcelona at its best. Worth a detour.

Busy weekday lunchtime we gave our name to waiting list and got a table. Any larger party would need to book a table I guess. 5 portions filled 2 people generously. Cod fritters taste much better than what they sound like.

Jai-Ca was recommended to us by a friend who lives in Barcelona and it definitely lived up to it's reputation. It was packed to the rafters with locals (always a good sign) and so it took a while to grab a seat and a drink. But once we got into the system we had a very entertaining waiter and the... More

I have been to JaiCa before and remember I have enjoyed the food and atmosphere that's why I decided to go back. but be careful, there are two "JaiCa"s on the same street, same owners and probably same food but the second one has zero character, doesn't worth the visit. As for the the tapas are small portions and are... More

If you want typical Spanish tapas this is right place. Good service, fresh food and many kinds to choose from. The prices are friendly. I recommend!

Staying in Barceloneta

Neighborhood Profile
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.
