I have been there several times. Last 2 times we were really upset. Service wasn t very good and food super overpriced. The days where staff was friendly and motivated are long gone. Same as for food. Won t be coming back in a long time! Last time was my father s birthday and it was totally ruined by them.

We went first because others had raved about it. In the event we had two terrific seafood meals, beautifully cooked and presented and put together on the basis of helpful advice from a brilliant, kind, amusing waitress who we both adored. The place oozes atmosphere, is beautiful to look at, is crowded but not noisy. I am in my 70s,... More

We came around 20:00, place is absolutely huge! There is an "army" of waiters and kitchen staff inside and all works like a clockwork. While service was fantastic, food did not follow. Do not get me wrong, food was decent but nothing spectacular. When order took we were advised that half portions will suffice and that was nice touch from... More

My brother took us out here last night after a tip he got. We had no idea where we were going. Almost all of the men wore long sleeved white dress shirts and dark jackets. I was a little embarrassed in my (dressy) short sleeved shirt. Fortunately, seated in the upper back room next to us were a few (2)... More

a group of us took the private room, ordered a shellfish platter per pair and it was off the scale, fresh, huge, variety and delivery. The platter will work for 4. amazing.

I went with my husband and will never go back. I don't mind pating a bit extra if you get good food and good service. What upsets me is when you pay aprox 200€ for overcooked seafood .I could barely peel the shrimps becuase they were so overcooked. The service was terrible, we were placed in the room in the... I usually enjoy the latest in food trends and fads, but there are some restaurants that are so steeped in history and tradition, that there is really no going awry with them - Botafumeiro is one of those restaurants. Service and food were impeccable, and a table-side visit from the chef really took things over the edge!

Had a lovely meal last night with friends at Botafumeiro. Luckily, I didn't have to pay! Excellent food/service (although my monkfish was served not quite hot). Lovely waitress, great wines, sampled my companions' dishes, all excellent. But those prices! €20 for a fish soup appetizer? Tasty dish containing 2 prawns, 3 mussels and a few fish chunks - worth about... More

While we found Barcelona had great restaurants for reasonable prices, this restaurant was over the top far too expensive. If you want to spend 20 euros for a soup appetizer, and 36 euros for the least expensive fish on the menu with little extra with it, then this is the place for you. Too bad as the food and service... This is a lovely (and expensive) restaurant north of the Eixample district in Barcelona. We shared a fabulous seafood platter (with generous servings of lobster) and enjoyed a great local wine (recommended by our waiter)

Among the three hundred diners that fill this 30-year-old restaurant every day, you may spot the King of Spain, movie stars, and politicians. Botafumeiro has to be a well-oiled machine to keep all and sundry happy and coming back for more, and it does. The decor is so trad, with wood railings and banisters, white table linens, and nautically-themed art and objets. The menu focusses on the sea, try fruits de mer for two to start, followed by anglerfish fisherman's stew with white beams or one of the barbecued fish, then a dessert of Belgian chocolate volcano with chocolate sherbet. Wine list is an ambassador for Spanish wines.

Staying in Gracia

Neighborhood Profile
Gracia literally stands out from the pack. It used to be an independent town until late into the 19th century. Though it’s just a short commute away from the center, a visit here feels like you’re in a whole different city. The bohemian vibe has drawn many international artists to this area, resulting in a wide selection of galleries, live music and artsy boutique stores. The nightlife is centered around the vibrant Gracia’s plaças, where young and old gather to enjoy a drink outside. Carrer de Verdi, its main street, offers affordable restaurants and a movie theater that screens new as well as classic films in their original language. However Gracia's greatest treasure lies just up the hill at Guell Park, where Antoni Gaudi's vibrant and revolutionary art sculptures stand atop unequaled views of Barcelona.
