After a disappointing night in a Michelin-starred restaurant, we came to this unstarred place more in hope than expectation. Our hope was justified – this was a delicious meal with wonderful service. They do tasting menus only, there is a choice of two. Ours was nine courses including appetisers and petits fours, and it was a real gastronomic experience. Not... More

A warm welcome and a thoroughly superb meal with great wine. No bad things to say about the food or drink. A balanced meal. Do not me put off my the musty smell as you enter its soon taken over my the smell of the food. Only reason we didn't give five stars was because we were ignored at the... More

What a beautiful experience we had at Montiel! Food is spectacular - the degustation menu will surprise you with 6-8 wonderful dishes. Each one was very special, hard to single out any one! Special mention though to the cold garlic soup, the fish cooked with olives and the mushroom rice. Great staff and service too. Well worth the price

We were actually looking for a good place to eat and this one was more a whole experience. Great food, everything combines perfectly, staff friendly and knows every single detail. We were impressed, definitely a must try and repeat!

The food here was adventurous, but accessible. Fruit gazpacho, delightful ceviche, breathtaking duck ravioli (with a very generous piece of foie) and a succulent suckling pig were the highlights. We got the 8 course gastronomic choice and left truly satisfied. That menu choice and a bottle of wine came out to ~$100 a person. I have paid much more for... More

Delicious, local, organic ingredients prepared in different ways, presented in a relaxing, quaint environment in El Born. Note that there are two tasting menus only (no al la carte), but they accommodate diners with special diets (one of our guest had a nut allergy). The 10 or so dishes presented were light individually, but overall presented a substantial dinner, and... More

My husband and I love to travel, and we love great food. Montiel was our grand finale to our vacation in Spain and Portugal, and it was easily one of the best dinners we have ever had anywhere, and likely THE best dinner. It is a small restaurant in a pedestrian-only part of the Born district of Barcelona - our... More

This Restuarant was the recommendation of our hotel Casa Camper. We tried to get into Uma, the highest rated restaurant via tripadvisor but it was sold out. This Restuarant has pre-fix menu and it was the consensus that the chefs choice or Gastronomic menu is best! It was also the recommendation that the wine pairing is also best. So, we... More

Went there while visiting Barcelona for anniversary and was very disappointed. Be warned. 2 hours of bringing us very small plates beginning with cold soup, then raw fish, then duck. I asked for my fish to be cooked. They were not too happy that I was unsatisfied. Never going back.

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighborhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
