It's worth a visit when you're in Barcelona. Pleasant atmosphere, very good coffee and very friendly service. Exceptional :-)

Recently moved to BCN - 3rd time I tried this coffee shop since its being praised so highly. Honestly; overrated.
Ambience is cool, funky and arty yet staff is unfriendly, not to mention their clear dissatisfaction is needing to work or possibly one not speaking Spanish. Frankly speaking 5 languages I am always willing to try but don’t make me feel like an idiot.
Laptops are only allowed in a tiny area which is terribly crowded and noisy, despite the rest of the coffee shop area being empty including couch areas: strongly no laptops permitted in this particular area. Frankly makes no sense: it’s 2019 for god sake.
Coffee quality and roast is good.
Had a granola bowl which didn’t really win any awards. It’s small, little granola and loads of yoghurt.
Overall: 3 attempts and 3 fails.
Barcelona has so many amazing coffee shops to offer, competition is big and service definitely not one that is high on the agenda of Espai Joliu

Where plants meet Coffee, that phrase could not fit better at @espaijoliu , the emblematic coffee shop in Poblenou that is so cozy with their plants and rustic decoration. It has a great area, and a lot of intimate spaces as you can see in our taken photos. As well as ORVAL, their second coffee shop, books and plants are sold here, but in a wider range. Their pistache cake is awesome (did not have this time though), and salty menu very well made! Operated mainly by girls, this so charming place has a great energy inside. -

We had the espresso shots, one single and one double. Roasted by @nomadcoffee , the Costa Rica bean was a perfect fit for a espresso. Nutty, chocolate flavors and aromas, as well as a balanced acidity with delicious sweetness. For filter they have the clean V60 as well as batch brew 😋. We also saw beans from the great @threemarkscoffee

Espai Joliu is a perfect place to work as well, as its so comfy to stay there, having a shot of your perfect coffee receipt a sweet or salty snack, caffeine through your veins and work being done! Highly recommended

I've never been treated worse at a café as a client than at this place. The waitress told me and my wife that we could not sit at a specific table with computers and asked us to move somewhere where there were no seats. Moreover, they forgot about our order and when I asked where it was she told me that there was no reason to be ill-mannered and then continued to tell me that the client is not always right. This was the first and the light time I will be coming here. I'll tell all my friends not to visit it as well.

It's one of the first coffeeshops I found. Great coffee and yummy snacks from local bakeries. The only downside is the hours. I really wish they had longer hours on Saturday and they were open on Sundays ;)

Lovely place with great coffee, nice breakfast and superb atmosphere. Cool combination of food, plants and books and magazines. A bit of the road, 15 min by bike from the centre. Portions are rather small, so order enough

I found this place thanks to a friend suggestion.
The place is very green with a lot of plants and magazines on sale.
They basically serve coffe and desserts even if they have few other options like the one I got today with smashed avocado, tomate and rucula.
You need to order at the counter and they serve you wherever you decide to sit.
The service was a bit messy cause the waiter served me a chocolate caje instead of a granola bar and she gave me a normal cappucino instead of a oat one.
Luckily she found out about her mistake before I tasted it and she apologised for that!
The staff is friendly and the vibes are amazing.
A bit expensive for what offered but worth a visit for the atmosphere and the vibes!!

We have been at the Espai Joliu Cafe in Barcelona ( IG account ) in early April 2019, a friend of mine suggested this place because it was cozy and peaceful. So with my girlfriend we decided to try it and we went there to have a lunch with a friend. At the first glance the place is rustic but very very cozy, full of green plants, bonsai and fat plants. The right mix of nature and wooden furniture. The place is also vegan friendly and we really appreciate that . They do also very tasty filtered coffee !! It is a good place to drink something or just to take some instagram pics for your profile. The ambient is really perfect.

It amazed me!!! How unconventional the place was! Like a botanical garden, but with coffee. And the coffee...oh, the coffee....I think, of all the places I has coffee in Barcelona here I found the most tasty and incredible coffee <3
I will miss it a lot! And you should also try their cupcakes or doughnuts, they are also delicious <3<3<3

The positives: lovely atmosphere, prices seem appropriate, supporting of local businesses (they serve nomad coffee, donuteria donuts, boston bagel bagels, etc), and great products for sale.
The downside: treatment from barista.
The barista working was very unfriendly when I ordered, but I didn’t pay much attention and wasn’t super bothered by it. I figured it was due to my poor Spanish and ignored it. I grabbed one of the Barcelona guide books, not with the intention of reading the entire book, but just to ensure I liked it before I purchased it. I totally understand not wanting people to sit down for hours and reading the books they are selling, as then they would never sell any. But a few minutes to browse? The barista noticed I was looking at it, and in the most unfriendly way asked if I planned to buy it. I tried to explain I was browsing with the intent to buy, but before I could get all the words out she snatched it out of my hands and stormed away. I ordered more food and another drink after this, and she continued her icy treatment towards me. I then started noticing her demeanor with other guests, happily engaging with most patrons (in Spanish) and very friendly. By the end of the experience I had a really bad taste in my mouth and was left wondering why I deserved such treatment. She could have politely explained their policy on books and i would have completely understood. Again, maybe it was because I was speaking in English, but I still didn’t deserve it. I’d like to go back but am unsure now.
