Stopped by here with a fellow traveller, after struggling to find just a small cheap bite in surrounding bars. Less than €2.50 for a caña and a tapas, I’ve attached a picture of the choices. All the tapas were delicious and beer good too, fantastic...idea if you have had a big menu del día and lunch and only want to do some light drinking and snacking at dinner.More

Two people, two beers and two tapas for €4. Sampled local Morcilla with fried potatoes and picante fried potatoes. The Morcilla and the garlic soup appeared to be the most popular items. Staff was polite and efficient.

Called in for a drink and were given some lovely tapas. We had a red wine, a tinto de verano, a local black pudding tapas and a lovely crab salad tapas all for just €4.50. The lady behind the bar was ever so friendly as...were her customers. So glad we called in there.More

El Gaucho Warmth of welcome/Service 10/10 Atmosphere 9/10 Quality/choice of tapas 9/10 Comments Our number one bar. In the heart of the Humido section of the old city. Very friendly staff who greeted us as we stepped through the door. They pointed out a gap...in the bar for us and made us welcome. Nice choice of tapas, the crab was particularly nice. Rammed full of locals. Great atmosphere. A must visit. Our ranking of bars (out of nine visited) 1st. Not our visit visit to Leon but this time we were with friends. Lovely city with plenty to do during the day and a vibrant nightlife in the evening. If you are having a long weekend the secret is to eat a menu del dia at lunchtime (1.30ish onwards) and then do a tapas crawl in the evening (8.00 pm onwards). Most bars give free tapas, many letting you choose from a selection available. The quality ranges from perfectly acceptable to really good. We visited eleven bars on our crawl over the two evenings but I can only remember nine. I have marked each bar, out of ten, in three categories: warmth of welcome and service from the staff, the atmosphere and, finally, the quality of the tapas available. If appropriate, I have left a comment pertinent to the bar. Check my other reviews to see all the bars sampled. We did not have a single bad experience in Leon and it is a great place to have fun, either as a couple or with a group of friends. If you don't have fun in Leon then there is probably something wrong with you 🤣 We chose the bars we visited on personal recommendations, from looking at TripAdvisor and, failing that, going into the busiest bars with the most noise. This is a system that usually works well for us as the locals are rarely wrong! Finally, there are dozens and dozens of bars that we didn’t get to visit. We may have missed some gems and some stinkers. Follow your nose, look for the crowds and have a great time.More

Enjoyed the authentic Spanish atmosphere - it quickly filled up after opening time, 7.30. Loved the patatas with morcilla or chorizo that came free with each drink and ordered a cheese board which was excellent. The staff were very friendly and recognised us when we...went back the following evening.More

Its in a pintxos friendly section of the historic centre. The staff are very friendly and if I lived here, they would get to know me very well. Food is good... they have several patatas based dishes that are worth the try (morcilla is the...best).More

We visited on a Tuesday evening in August, the only tourists. The tapas were free with drinks. Of you like patatas, this place has wonderful patatas with chorizo, or spicy sauce 'Gaucho' or with black pudding... Amazing. The garlic soup, and crab salad made up...last night's tapas list . For every single drink you get a free tapas. London tapas bars had not prepared me for such hospitality, nor portion size. We supplemented with an 8euro plate of calamari, a generous plate that satisfied four of us. Simple, but as with the best fried calamari, the batter was crisp, short and flakey. Fantastic service, friendly, and really helpful with my woeful Spanish. Totally recommended.More

Loved this tiny little tapas bar tucked away in a corner of a litte square. The guys who run the bar are so friendly and the drinks are very reasonably priced and the tapas they offer is delicious....free with a drink, garlic soup, potato with...chorizo or potato with black pudding....visited a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed it.More

Although some of the servers are somewhat brusque at times, it's part of the experience. The soup is the go to dish here, although the fired potatoes and seasoned beef is a good second contender. This place should make it onto your tapas rounds in...Leon - it's the only one we returned to a second time.More

We stopped here whilst eating and drinking our way round Leon. The wine was good, and very cheap indeed! The food was also good, we had a platter of meats, and also the little pots of soup with our wine.
