Enjoyable for a dinner. It has an exterior area of garden with tables set with candles. Good food, medium range prices. Important to make reservations for dinner. Located near the “Puerta de la Bisagra” and the “Puerta de Alfonso XV”. Highly recommended.

Our tour guide for the day Ricardo brought us here for lunch. It's connected to a hotel that I think was previously a cardinal's home. Beautiful grounds (multiple places you could be seated) and wonderful service. The server spoke English well. Definitely order the Toledo specialty here: roasted suckling pig. We ordered the combo: the pig and roasted suckling lamb.... More

An excellent lunch in cool shade overlooking the gardens of this lovely hotel which is located just inside the old walls of the city. The starters of garlic prawns and a very fresh gazpacho with a choice of pepper, onion and crouton garnishes were first class and the main course of turbot was perfectly cooked and taken off the bone... We spent two nights here and had one dinner and two very good breakfasts. The hotel is set in a lovely garden which echoes the Alhambra gardens of Granada. The cardinal who built the place wished it to resemble the much bigger palace of Granada. The gardens and fountains provide that same atmosphere. Very peaceful indeed. Our room looked out... More

While staying at this great hotel we had a fine 25€ dinner off the ejecutiv menu (3 course with beverage) which you have to ask for. It was good value and the setting is sublime although the service was slow.

We were staying in the excellent hotel of which this restaurant is a part. We had shared tapas at the hotel bar the night before and found it to be excellent. Having read the hotel's reviews my wife and I were looking forward to our meal, but we're sadly disappointed. It may well be that as they were catering for... More

Good food in a lovely setting marred by shambolic, poor service. This is a beautiful building with a lovely garden eating area. It's at the expensive end for Toledo, which would be fine if the service had matched the food, but it didn't. We didn't see the same waiter twice, no-one asked how the food was or intereacted with us... More

Really enjoyed eating here. As it was part of a tour there was no choice which was a shame. The food, however, was good and the wine was palatable. The setting is really atmospheric. I would consider a return under my own steam.

Some people might like this kind of dining, but we are not among them. The setting is quite formal and the service matches the setting. The food was not great, and certainly not worth the high prices charged (for Spain).

We walked in for lunch on what happened to be Spain's Mother's Day. There were no tables available so the host set us up in room they were not using. Our waiter spoke fluent English and was extremely friendly and helpful. The salad we ordered was huge and delicious with a lettuce we'd never had before (? oak leaf lettuce).... More

Description
The Hostal del Cardenal is located in an 18th century Toledo palace that has been converted into a three star hostel. The hostels restaurant, in an attractive setting surrounded by gardens, offers traditional Spanish cooking, featuring roast suckling pig and lamb cooked in traditional Castilian style in a wood fired oven, and Toledo-style partridge casserole. Desserts include the marzipans and marquesitas (small pastries) that are typical of the Toledo region. There is a special area set aside for childrens games and in the summer the terrace is a great spot to enjoy a meal with friends.
