No trip to northern Spain is complete (for our family at least) without demolishing a groaning plate of shellfish. This is an excellent place to do it. The staff are very helpful and the shellfish were lovely, especially the razor clams and goose barnacles. The lobster claws were slightly undercooked although none of us suffered any after effects.

We tried the "menu del dia" and I was surprised about how tasty their paella was. I loved it so much that I ended up asking for their tips and tricks for getting it so juicy and tasty :) The second dish was also really good, grilled fish (don't remember the type). The place is located in a typical fishing... More

We stumbled on this place will exploring the fishing port, having just disembarked from our ferry. It was one of several in a line and we just took pot luck but were tempted by the BBQ on the pavement. Just great, simply-cooked seafood by someone who really knows what they're doing.

This restaurant is located in the old fishing quarter, along with 3 other restaurants specialising in fish. We chose it over the others partly because the great value set lunch menu. We sat down towards the end of the lunch session (around 3pm) but we were not hurried along by the staff at all. A choice of around 5 or... More

I was taken to the Gaviota by some locals I had recently met during my stay in Santander. I must confess that I wouldn't have got to this part of town without them. The area used to be a fisherman neighborhood and it's out of the usual beaten touristy track. Mind you, it's not dodgy at all! Just quiet and... More

Well worth the €1.30 bus fare from town (routes 4 + 14), the regenarated Barrio Pescadores is a seafood heaven. La Gaviota had been recommended to us by 2 sets of local residents. We were in a back room although you could sit on the pavement or in a front room. Most of the clientele are Spanish families. We went... More

Great seafood restaurant, with tasty grilled meat as another option (but no chicken available on a Saturday night ?) delicious garlic soup as a starter. Excellent Rioja recommended by the waiter at €12 a bottle. Heard a lot about the desert 'fried milk' and really wanted to try it, glad I did, it's lovely.Friendly helpful staff make this a must... A must if you visit Santander, excellent fish meals at modest prices, what a change from Padstow in UK, The owner there should have taken notice when he visited I only wish I had had the paella which looked A!; next time. Plenty of parking in the streets on a Saturday, do not know about weekdays. This is a dock... More

Hey there! We went to Santander and someone recommended us "La gaviota" as a good, cheap and nice restaurant. The service was really great, the waiter was so funny and he served us relatively quick when the restaurant was full of customers. The price was not expensive and the atmosphere was very nice, friendly and carismatic. If you wanna enjoy... More
