we sat outside at this restaurant and the service and food were excellent (and very reasonable ). Staff very friendly , we had meat dishes but the people on the next table had the fish mixed casserole and said it was delicious . We also were amused at the old couple sat in the window opposites!!! Would definitely go ther... More

La papaya is nice restaurant close to Plaza del Charco with a choice of eating out front in the street to people watch, on the inside in old an old style building or out the back in a garden setting. An extensive menu caters for all tastes and good value for money.

The area to the west of Plaza del Charco (ie north of the bus station) is the area of interesting street art and numerous good restaurants. One of the quiet ones in Calle El Lomo is La Papaya - a peaceful collection of inside and outside rooms and courtyards, extending back from the road. There are comfortable wicker chairs, singing... Something just does not click with this well located restaurant with a good internal layout and decor. Elsewhere it has been suggested by a reviewer that he visited on an off-night - I just got the impession that evey night might just be an off-night with the restaurant just not making the grade. My fish was just not well cooked... More

There are a few restaurants in this area, we preferred the menu here which is why we chose this over the others. We had gone for lunch and sat outside. The restaurant is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside, it has nice seating areas outside but they are sheltered from the sun. We didn't want a big... More

We found this little restaurant nestled amongst a group or eateries in a street just off the main square in Puerto. My wife ordered pork tenderloin and I went for the sirloin steak. The food was okay, nothing special, but adequate. The house red was drinkable and the service was effective if not over-friendly. I'd expected more and was slightly... More

On our way to Tenerife, we sat next to a couple of Danes, who had visited this restaurant many times and recommend it. So we tried it, when visiting relatives in the city of Puerto de la Cruz. The little secret you must know is that they have the nicest little patio in the back of the restaurant, which you... More

We have visited Puerto de la Cruz many times, staying and eating in the La Paz area which has few Canarian restaurants. About ten years ago we discovered La Papaya in the old town and found the salads and fresh fish dishes excellent, eaten there about ten times so far. Its a rambling place with several intimate side rooms, very... More

The restaurant is a typical local one and offers very tasty food at a good price. Do not expect a trendy restaurant but rather a more traditional restaurant but certainly one to recommend.

I tried this place 2 weeks ago as it appears in the current Lonely Planet edition for the Canary Islands. I was late heading out for dinner, so arrived after 10:15pm. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Despite the kitchen 'closing' at 10:30pm, I was able to order a delicious main (fish fillet stuffed with prawns), and also a... More
