So we had very high hopes for this restaurant. My girlfriend and I love to go for tasting menus as we feel that you get a true experience of the chef's vision and love of food. The first thing you notice is the view - wow. Overlooking the bay of biscay from up high is quite wonderful and really gives... More

One of the several 3 Michelin star restaurants in San Sebastián and my 5th experience at a 3 starrer. Excellent food and presentation, beautiful views, and stellar service. Loved how understated this place was--wasn't needing to be showy or fancy and has the confidence to shine. Food: 4.5, Atmosphere: 5, Service: 5 Cost to worth it rating: 3 (175 Euros... More

We were on a mission to sample a few Michelin star restaurants in San Sebastian. One of them was Akelare. We rented a car and drove to the restaurant using a sat nav. A bit tricky at times as the sat nav took us through a hilly and winding village road with loads of sharp bends! We finally made it... More

Akelarre was very memorable. We got a table in the window and as we sat down the mist cleared, so the backdrop to our lengthy lunch was tumbling green fields down to a deep blue sea topped by a cloudless sky. The location is super and means you can focus on the food and on the occasion. Menus are explained... More

One of the high end places in San Sebastián. High above the sea, high prices, high expectations. Low quality. Ask yourself:why am I going there? If you are into top food quality, then avoid this place. It is a tourist trap that positions itself on a high level which is not justified. If you want the best, go to Martin... More

My wife and I went for our 1 year wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint. The views were every bit of not more spectacular than we imagined and made our 3hour dining experience a real joy. The food was fantastic - as you'd expect. We did prefer the food at Martin Berasategui but that may be down to simple... More

This restaurant claims the mantle of leader in Basque cuisine, and Pedro Subijana (the head chef) is a regional icon who has been working hard for decades to re-discover and innovate on Basque dishes. While some aspects of the restaurant are outstanding (the views, a handful of special courses) I was very surprised that this restaurant has a 3-star rating.... More

A good dinner and overall average dining experience. Definitely over rated and no longer Michelin star worthy. Overpriced and nothing really exciting.
