We came here late with our 2 children and the staff were so nice. They made sure we got a seat and we were able to push my sleeping daughter in her stroller tucked away. Service was very good and quick. Loved the jamon and...emmenthaler sandwiches warmed up. We ate several.More

It’s located outside of the old town (in the area called Gros). It was easy to take a seat, which felt like a blessing in San Sebastian’s pintxos scene. They had some stewed items. I tried ox tails. It came with little French fries and...it was very nice.More

When I called for a reservation just before opening time the Engish-speaking hostess was friendly and accommodating and saved us a table. The front is a pintxos bar and the back is a small restaurant. A large section of the restuarant with a handful of...tables was dedicated to storage. We shared the only English version of the menu they had. Some of the seafood dishes used the Euskara language term for the dish instead of explaining it in English. We had trouble communicating with our waitress because we did not speak Spanish and she did not speak English, so our hostess went out of her way to help us. Our daughter is vegan and she immediately had suggestions for menu modifications. (Many people here are not familiar with the vegan lifestyle.) The hit of the evening was hake with clams, also the most expensive seafood item. My wife asked about a salad she saw on the next table, which was not on the English menu at all. We ordered a nice bottle of dryish white wine. The fried calamari was also very good, but a little different than what you get in the States. The letdown was the cod; two of ordered it and it was a generous portion but was very tough and chewy, not at all like the melt-in-your-mouth cod I cook myself at home. I brought this up with our hostess, and rather than offering an alternative she said this was a very popular dish, the cod is from Norway (or was it Denmark?) and that is the way it is supposed to be. My son ended up walking to the bar and getting a couple of pintxos to make up the gap. Then we were told that pintxos are not allowed to be served in the restaurant, but she let us do it this time. Dinner for five adults with a bottle of wine: 163€.More

I had seen this place on a you tube videos on the best pinchos in san sebastian the owner was behind the bar and was very accommodating the pinchos on the bar all looked so appetizing but i ordered the hot ones as all my...research said to do. We had the volcano and ravioli both were very good my only criticism both had a few large flakes of undisolved salt in them i would definitely recommend but i had more memorable pinchos in other barsMore

We found Hidalgo 56 thanks to a friendly local who said it was her favorite pinxtos spot. What a welcome surprise! The proprietress greeted us herself and made us feel so very welcome. There weren’t too many pinxtos to choose from relative to the more...touristy spots but what they had was phenomenal - you can feel the family owned pride in the food and the atmosphere. Prices were so reasonable considering the excellence of quality. This is very much worth the extra walk to Gros if you’re in San Sebastián - an experience that really captures the Basque pinxtos experience.More

A pintxos bar to which we went twice with a small ,six tables ,restaurant where we ate once and had a great meal. Generous portions cooked in a way which shows Hidalgo once had a Michelin star in a previous place. Charming service from Mrs.H...and staff. Excellent and good value wine list.More

We arrived early on a cool Friday evening. The bar was laden with interesting pintxos which made it difficult to choose. There was a good selection of wine by the glass. Two of us drank a very acceptable vermouth. We sat outside by the bus...stop. Well worth a visit.More

Pintox at the cafe but walk through a narrow passage past the kitchen and there is a hidden gem! The menu is basque food n you can’t google as no service on phone so it’s a guess but the tacos beef is fantastic !!! 😮

This was our last stop of the night. We walked in really only intending to get a glass of wine but the pintxos looked so interesting we tried 2 which were both amazing. First was white asparagus, coated in almond flour and deep fried, topped...with mushroom shavings, on a lemon aioli with frozen butter shavings on the side. All under a little glass dome, lifted with a flourish by the server so you could smell the truffle oil infused in the mushroom! Second was a 5 cheese cream, a custard really, also very good. The vibe was more relaxing than some of the other places, and very friendly.More
