Didn´t want to take Amex as payment but instead tried to make out that their machine wasn´t connecting very well but hey presto as soon as produced a Visa Card the macine miraculously connected and took my money. This is a restaurant that has downgraded significantly and still lives off it´s 1* Michelin status but sadly that needs to be... More

Inventive restaurant where the experience is more valued than the act of eating. The food is quite good and the service is excellent. If possible choose the external area for the view, and don't miss the desserts.

The Chef's Menu offers what one expects from a Michelin starred restaurant, unusual presentations of familiar and unfamiliar food products which still managed to delight the palate. The restaurant furnishings and the helpful advice from the sommelier which allowed us to chose a nice glass of Cava as aperitif and a good bottle of Sauvignon Blanc were a promising start... More

Etxanobe deserves its Michelin star for sure. It is located in the music hall complex on the third floor. Once we were off the lift we were greeted warmly by the owner of the restaurant who said he had proudly had the restaurant for 17 years. It was a special touch to our evening. We tried the Chef's Menu which... More

This experience was what you would expect at a Michelin restaurant; cutting edge flavors and preparation techniques. We had the Chef's Menu and really enjoyed most of the dishes. The sardine dishes were not in our wheel house (2 of them) but they were amazingly creative and unique. Dessert was a favorite with nitrogen dipped whipped cream over a freeze-dried... More

We had dinner here on a Thursday in July, it was a full house. Food: We had the Chef's tasting menu. This was a 10 course dinner (inc 2 desserts and exc 2 appetizers) at 88€ per person excl wine. The food varied from amazing to so-so. The pigeon was superb, the shrimp, scallop and hale dishes as well. Other... More

The day after eating at Mugaritz we took a more "light" dinner the next night at Etxanobe. We wanted to sit outside and enjoy the warm night (we are from Norway). The atmosphere. the service and the food was excellent! They also made the best lemonade for my pregnant wife. I can highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Randomly we picked one of the 28 Michelin rated restaurants in Bilboa, and we were not disappointed at all! Throughout the 12 course chefs tasting menu presentation, creativity, taste, texture - all blended well together in a very nice top class experience. The only thing we may have wished to be different was the speed - we could have slowed... More

Beautiful space with beautiful outdoor seating and excellent service but the food was sadly disappointing. Scallops were chewy and octopus was tough and uninteresting.

.... but the tempo between the dishes was a little bit stressfull. Maybe it is because of a cultural difference, northern European (in this case Scandinavians) don't mind to sit 3-4 hours with a menu at a Michelin restaurant!... (my personal record is 7 hours at a 2 star restaurant!...) And therefore also like to drink more wine during such... More

Etxanobe restaurant is amazingly sited above Bilbaos second iconic building, the gleaming Palacio Euskalduna. Etxanobe is one of the hottest dining spots in the world right now, drawing breathless reviews from food-writers and food-lovers for the grand cuisine of chef/owner Fernando Canales. The post-modern dcor of the two dining rooms one of them available for private hire features a fabulous ruched fabric ceiling, wittily skirted lighting, white linens and seating, and unforgettable views over the estuary and the Guggenheim from the terrace. Light pours in everywhere. Innovation is on display in every mouthful that emerges from Canales kitchen. Theres no menu of the day; you choose a la carte or a series of tasters. Dishes change monthly and may include deceptively simple descriptions like starter of lasagne of anchovies, main course of sole with pil-pil sauce and trout eggs, and home made dessert of cinnamon and rice puff-pastry with milk, though youd be mad to miss the little chocolate bombs. The wines are excellent and the service is a mission unto itself in a word, sublime.
