My friend Kathleen and I walked to the Mercado Lonja del Barranco, a gourmet market that proved well worth the walk. The market was not nearly as crowded as the market in Madrid so we were able to cruise the options, save a table and have an amazing lunch (I am still dreaming about it!). We could choose from a selection of Iberian ham dishes (from black Iberian pigs that eat only acorns) thinly sliced off the bone right in front of us, many versions of potatoes including patatas bravas, (the batata alioli was exceptionally good) and many seafood options including octopus, but in that category I decided to try my first Erizo or Sea Urchin (for 5 Euro). This was something of a longtime curiosity for me. I discovered it was creamy and briny and tasted of the sea but I probably won’t be ordering it again soon. However, the highlight of my meal that I would go back to on a daily basis if I could, was purchased inside the market at Frutas y Verduras where I had the best flakey filo like bread with caramelized onions, amazing goat cheese like none you can get in the US, topped with grilled asparagus and a balsamic drizzle. If that doesn’t get you there the artichoke, tomato and guacamole on bread will. Kathleen had a seafood paella that she raved about followed by Pirole taso Queso or cheese lolly pops which were both delicious and fun to eat.

Like many food court concepts this place is inauthentic and poor value for money. We went at 8pm in the evening and found the atmosphere dead, half the food stores shut and the service extremely slow. Avoid and go to something local and more authentic.

A real gem where you can enjoy a variety of dishes in a bright open setting. A few favorites were the Dame Latas pinchos and also the paella. You can try many different dishes here and they are all very affordable, in addition to being really tasty.

Superb food market on the river. Varied choice of food and wine, and reasonably priced. Numerous seats outside or inside. I particularly enjoyed the seafood bar ran by Daniel and the octopus / pulpo kebab was first class with a glass of Albariño wine.

This market has a very chilled vibe and it is great for people watching, grabbing a bite to eat and a glass of wine. There is a good selection of various tapas although we thought the flavours were just ok. We didn't experience anything special or try any dishes that we would return to have again. The ice cream was lovely, however. It is a good opportunity to try some tapas in a very relaxed environment.

Plenty of choice This is a cross between the Metcado in Madrid and a good hall with 20 stalls selling all sorts of food there is a wide choice to suit most. With outdoor seating on the terrace and down towards the river you buy your food and find a spot to enjoy. An enjoyable lunch but any time would be good.

A perfect place to stop for lunch, overlooking the river. Sit dow, order a drink, then go and choose your favourite tapas from a succession of little stalls. Clean, easy, friendly.

Had one tapas lunch here! Great concept. Choose your choice of lunch from different restaurants in the building and then find a seat and eat! A wide selection of foods - we sampled Squid, croquettes and my daughter had a delicious ice cream. The only negative is that the price is much higher here than the local tapas bars which we preferred. The air conditioning was a godsend in the extreme heat of 44+ degrees.

Well it seems that the place can change from day to day. We came here in the evening. They had the large screen showing the football. The place was crowded and lively. Each stall offers something different and so there is a lot of choice. It means you can purchase dishes from different stalls and create a great meal. There are separate bars serving beer and wine. We found the staff helpful when deciding what wine to choose and one of the stalls actually created an "off menu" dish for our friend who is gluten free. It's not authentic in the Spanish sense but we have come across this concept in other cities.

The Mercado has a prime riverfront location with extensive indoor and outdoor seating. Numerous stalls selling a variety of different foods for snacks and lunch or having a dink, not sure if I would go to dinner there.
Light and airy, a little soulless all glass and stainless steel nevertheless a vibrant place to eat or drink at.

Less characteristic market than the more renowned ones in Madrid or Barcelona. It serves both fish and meat tapas as well as excellent platters. Prices are slightly more expensive than average but it is worth a visit especially for its proximity to the riverside which is really beautiful in the evening. For dessert, however, if you are looking for something more distinctive there is a kiosk outside that serves churros.

Disorganised, disinterested, mediocre (being generous), overpriced. I last came here a couple of years ago when it was independent stalls. Feels like a corporate take over has destroyed this place. They’re trying to simulate the old feel. Failing at every level. Staff officious or downtrodden. Paella was bland, black paella was inedible - far too salty. Thrown on a plate, shoved in a microwave. Bish. Bash. Bosh. 30€. ‘Can we order a drink?’ No that’s over there. ‘How about this item on the menu?’ No - that’s at another stand sir. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Disastrous, I don't understand how there can be positive comments about this place, maybe it's good for tourists, although I doubt it, bad food, bad service, it seems like you have to thank them for serving you, expensive prices for the product you get. offer, I am totally convinced that I will not return, much less take or recommend this place to anyone. I am not a tourist, I live in the city, and I feel bad when I find places that don't measure up.

Cool place atmosphere wise . Have a bit inside. Be prepared to wait a long time outside for drinks took us 40 min to place a drinks order which never came so we left. Was not the first time this happened.

A mix of different eateries and drink options to cater for all tastes.
Not a cheap venue by comparison with other tapas places.
Different experience by the river and worth a visit as a one off.
Locals and tourists.
