Vibrant and happening kind of place

Los Gatos is located in the old historic part of Malaga city on a prominent corner position. Very popular with locals and tourists alike. It is a versatile venue for drinks, tapas or full meals. Menu has some great options and there are additionally specials- but beware of the specials trap that they tend to inflict on unsuspecting tourists!!! They do not advertise the price ! In my experience, they are never good value. So stick with the menu where you can see the prices and you will not go wrong. Waiters are very busy yet spend time trying to upsell you. It is a vibrant, happening sort of place with great atmosphere. Eclectic decor ! Huge bulls head adorns one wall.

We visited this place on two occasions when we visited Malaga recently. On the 1st occasion we only had lunchtime drinks which were accompanied by a complimentary dish of chipsticks. We were impressed by the popularity of the place so decided to return. On the 2nd visit we had lunch and wine. We started with the Iberian Ham platter as a sharing plate and I have to say that this was the best I have ever tasted. After that the star dish was definitely the Oxtail Stew. The meat fell away from the bone and was accompanied by fries. Definitely worth a try. We sat outside as the weather was very pleasant and by 1:00pm the outside space was full. The only down side was the wine, which was very nice but at €20 was a little expensive compared with other restaurants in the area. I would also mention the waiter we met (sorry didn't get the name) who was great. All in all a really good experience.

Pay attention to what you order

I ordered 3 different dishes & asked for ration (half portion) and patatas bravas. I was served 3 full portion which was way too much for 1 person. In addition the waitet should have told me that a dish will be served with fries I wouldn't have needed to order an additional patatas bravas. (Which I didn't even touch) No need to make a fuss but it's good to pay attention to what you order and make it very clear that you want racion not full dish! They are friendly but very pushy to attract foreign customers. The food was good nothing great though

Came here because it was suggested my the air b&b host. Great place, very friendly waiters and cool atmosphere. Do not let looks deceive you! The food (meat platter with lamb, beef & oxtail for two) was full of flavor. After asking for the bill we were presented with drinks on the house by the waiters and ended up staying 2 houra exta. 5 stars.

It was honestly horrible. Once we sat down we were harassed by a server trying to get us to buy large amounts of food. When we finally got to ordering they didn’t have half of the things we wanted and due to one of the waiters bad English he ordered us 2 meals more than we wanted, which we ended up paying for. The food was a mess. The menu was massive and the meals where badly described. It was hard to tell what was a starter and what was a full meal while the waiters were constantly “recommending” food options. When it arrived we were disgusted at the lack of basic food knowledge. My meal was made up of 20% oil and a pork that looked like something from a cheap store sandwich. The waiters were rushing around and/or smoking right next to where we were sitting. They threw off a really untrustworthy vibe that made every comment seem of putting. When we were finished and paying the bill they were nearly throwing us off our stools trying to get us to leave. In conclusion, it looks welcoming from the outside but seems like a big scam once your finished. The waiters started off nice but got more and more aggressive over basic mistakes made by them. Would not recommend.

Bizzare service - terrible food

We went here last night after seeing a glowing review but honestly I am very confused by the positive reviews I have seen. We arrived and asked to be seated outside, they couldn't confirm when we would have a table but accommodated us shortly after we arrived which was the only good thing about the visit. As soon as we sat down we were approached by a gruff waiter pushing a special platter for two on us without showing us menu and without asking what we wanted to drink. It took 3 requests for him to actually bring us a menu. We also had two other waiters with similar attitudes coming to the table and obviously not communicating with the others because they were asking us the same questions. The menu was strange as we were told the section labelled 'main courses' were the starters. They continued to try to insist we get this special platter for sharing and when we said we wanted something from the menu we were told the menu items weren't as good as the special. The mains we wanted weren't available so in the end we ordered something else and the fish arrived just on it's own covered in garlic and parsley with a sad bit of salad tucked under one end. I felt this was not very honest of them as when I asked how it was presented he pointed to another table who had gotten the same plate but they had a large platter with salad and other items included. We ordered some 'canapes' to start but these arrived after the main arrived. We got no bread, no olives - nothing to snack on while we waited as is common in most places here. The 'canapes' consisted of thick slices of French style bread so lightly toasted they didn't look toasted at all. Some of the toppings were grey or looked raw. We also received the wrong canapé. We tasted some of the food but it was terrible. I felt quite upset we were duped and couldn't even stomach trying to eat any more as the service was so awful. The waiters didn't check that we were happy with everything or if we needed anything else. When they brought items to the table they slapped them down hard on the table without any care. They didn't clean the dirty table before putting plates down. The cutlery was cheap and started to bend when I was trying to cut some of the rubbery fish. Only one drink arrived and they forgot mine, and it took another waiter to bring me my drink, which was watery flat beer. We left most of the food there and I asked for the bill. The waiter didn't even ask if everything was fine even though he saw how much food we left uneaten. Tourists beware - this is definitely not a place to eat in Malaga. Never again!!!

TERRIBLE SERVICE

Title sums it up. TErrible service from beginning to end. Waiters are to busy trying to socialize with women or smoke cigarettes to serve. The waiters were smoking just on the other side of the alley 5 feet away. We could not get refills on drinks , we order 4 items from them menu and only received 2. We didn’t receive the other 2 after waiting a addition 30 min after we finished our first 2 items we just asked for the bill. Then waited a additional 15 min while our waiter was over talking to more women. Finally we got the bill and waited another addition 10 for someone to come with a credit card machine. The owner of this establishment should clean house on the serving staff. The food we did get was good so it’s a shame the service is so bad

Friendly waiter and efficient service. We had Jamon and Cheese plates as a snack and although a little expensive it was good food and worth paying a few euros extra. Then we were given a free beer each at the end so it balanced out the cost.

Chaotic & wonderful!

This was a fantastic experience. It was buzzing with locals. The waiters don’t speak much English (not a criticism, I don’t speak much Spanish!) though the menu has an English translation, so it was a case of pointing at passing dishes. That worked out very well. We had a delicious smoked fish platter, a tasty tomato salad & THE best spicy garlic prawns ever. We drank rose wine & beer & the service was super speedy. The waiter we had was very funny. Seems to specialise in bread with various toppings. Also seemed very authentically Spanish.

Horrible service - Shame food

I arrived there and two different waiters tried to sell a big plate to me and my partner, we refused , they came to us table and try it again at least three times. We ordered some tapas and a meal but the meal arrived first and completely horrible, the tapas arrived after and totally different that we had ordered, after that they clear started to avoid us because we are clearly up set and disappointed. Food terrible, service bad, and we felt completely disappointed without respect and commited from the waiters. We were very excited to know Los Gatos but the only experience we had were never more Los Gatos. The picture show that the food is completely raw , no attention for this food just because it one wasn't the plate that they would like to sell us .

Not an happy experience

I sat here to try some of the typical boquerones (tiny anchovies). Only when the other plate was coming they said they where out. My octopus canapé was crap... the beer was ice cold. So not and happy place for me. Also I was almost kicked out by the waiters because they wanted to sit other people at my table. They didn’t approach me for leaving but they talked and pointed at me so that I felt bad and left. Didn’t like that at all. Paid 5,5€ for a beer (2,5€) and that piece of bread with wired cream and transparent octopus (3€) The toilet was clean and had plenty of toilet paper and soap. I choose the place because it was full, should have looked to google maps rating 🤦🏻‍♀️

Los Gatos - complete scam

A bunch of Dick Turpins. Ordered a bottle of house red - turned out they had given us a bottle of €39 red wine (one of the most expensive on the menu)!! When we pointed this out to our waiter, he blamed his colleague and offered no apology. This was all after he rushed us into ordering food by pushing an overpriced platter that wasn’t on the menu. We cancelled our food order when we realised what was happening and were swiftly made to move to a cramped space at the bar to finish our extortionate bottle of wine. I have never experienced this kind of rude service and tourist scamming in Malaga - there are so many better restaurants to visit nearby. Get yourself to somewhere like El Pimpi instead.

Appalling place - stay away

Horrible experience as explained by other reviewers. Pushy insulting waiter who duped us into receiving huge amounts of food we didn’t know we were ordering g when we just wanted a few light tapas to have with a beer while sheltering from a rain shower. €130 bill hit. Ruined our evening which was a birthday. Ugh. Stay away. Wonderful experiences for two weeks in Andalusia from every single place and staff member except this. Scammed big time.

Waiters pushed us to order the meat & seafood platter, and we stupidly fell for it without asking the price. 85 Euros!!! 35 Euros for the steak!! A total rip off. It would have been cheaper to order each item seperately. / Los camareros te empujan a pedir la bandeja de carne o perscado o mixto. ¡No lo hagas! Por lo menos sin preguntar el precio. 85 Euros!!! 35 Euros el 'chuleton'. Un timo.

LOS GATOS: worst experience ever

The centre of Malaga has so many small restaurants that it is not difficult to choose one. One evening decided to take Los Gatos. Waiter recommended a fish platter for 2 persons for € 45,00 however we decided to go for meat. Ordered as main course 1 entrecot and 1 chuletillas. Service was quick but quality of both dishes was extremely bad. Chuletillas looked like finished bones of a client who already left. Wrong plate? No also entrecot was poor quality. Next to us on the terrace 2 young ladies had ordered the fish plate. They were so disappointed that they complained immediately. Not satisfied with the reply they threw the money on the table and left without further touching the fish. Also for us this was once and never again. Not even food for the cats.
