About
El Faro de Cadiz is located in the traditional neighborhood of "La Viña", where Gonzalo Cordoba started with a small bar decorated as a sailor tavern, with nets and fishing stuff, with few wooden benches and tables. The customers came in search of the famous fried fish, called "pescaito frito" daily carried by fishermen of "caleta" beach. His daily concern and desire to excel led him to transform the local expanding and providing modern facilities. Now retired, his spirit of service and commitment to others is part of our principle to keep shining gastronomically Cadiz and we are proud to continue this work. El Faro Cadiz is still committed to the tradition to move forward and offer the best of our sea and our land to our clients.

We came to the restaurant directly from the street with no reservation but stuff managed to find us a place. We ordered 2 starters tartar presa de iberico and tuna tartar. The second one was pretty good but presa was simply dull... For main dish we had sea devil and sea bass. Sea devil was served "MOZÁRABE" which was extremely sweet and IMHO doesn't make a good fit with the fish (I've wish waiter had told me before it would be extremely sweet) but fish itself was too dry... Sea bass was definitely better but still nothing special...

Booked here as had read some good reviews. Had a selection of starters which were good. The biggest let down was the main courses- overcooked jewfish and undercooked monkfish but accounted for €55 worth of the meal in total so disappointing. I think the place and food is rather dated and there are other local tapas bars nearby offering much better quality food for a third of the price.

Came here as the restaurant we had booked over 2 months in advance cancelled on the day of our reservation due to a staff member with Covid. So we booked a table here last minute. It seemed to have good reviews but we felt on arrival there was zero ambiance. Waiting staff were very “stiff” and the food was awful with small portions. It was a set menu and not cheap. One fish dish inedible and none of us ate it. The wine was good. We would not return and not recommend!!!

Unfortunately, our experience was negative. It probably was high quality in the old days, but now it is a commercial place with more focus on budget than fresh ingredients and appreciated service level. The tuna didn’t smell fresh and had a fishy odor, it was probably older. Furthermore, the pasta for the kids was no more than spaghetti with tomato frito (supermarket passata) from a 0,29 euro supermarket can... disappointment. New dishes came before finishing the previous ones and we had too many finished plates contaminating our table. Not worth it the Michelin forks on the wall.

Good afternoon, We eagerly awaited your comment. We remember the night you came to dinner and how you returned the plate of tuna with pepper. Tuna tastes like tuna. The tuna was very fresh. The tuna was tried by the kitchen team including myself and it was fantastic. We do not use soy, we do not use additives for tuna because we understand that it should only taste like tuna. As you will understand we always respect the opinions of customers but we cannot allow you to question the quality of our product. By the way the tuna, since you complained that "the tuna tasted fishy" was somewhat obvious, you did not pay for that dish. Nor can we allow you to criticize our service. Thank you very much.

We expected a great experience. The restaurant is fancy and it was full of people: good signs. However, attention was “hectic”, food was not really special and the price much too high considering the meals and the way we were treated.

We were really excited to go to this Michelin recommended fish restaurant in Cádiz in a mild January evening. We didn’t have a reservation but it was no problem to get a table for two. Lots of elderly waiters and an interesting menu. Lovely wine recommended by the waiter but the food was so ordinary ! Coming from Dublin, where food is king, we found the whole thing really dated and frankly boring. I had mixed fried fish - six different types of fish, fried in a light batter, with lemon but no sauces. It was just dull. My better half had monkfish in a weird sweet sauce - just not exciting. Where were the zingy flavours and fun presentations? Seventy euros later, we Couldn’t get out fast enough to go down the road to a street cafe for a coffee and ‘ postre ’. What a let-down!

We visited the restaurant after a recommendation from our hotel. The food I ordered, some noodle paella with tuna, tasted like what I make when I clean out the fridge from leftovers. My boyfriend's food was somewhat better but the meat had bones which is perhaps not what you'd expect when paying 20€ for a meal. The waiter put bread on the table before the food arrived (as restaurants usually do) but for that we had to pay 4,54€ here! Other than that the service was decent and the wine was good.

A party of 10 friends went to this restaurant last night on a recommendation. The booking was made a month ago and confirmed yesterday morning and yet when we arrived the head waiter was most unwelcoming and made an issue of the booking claiming we had only booked for 9 persons and then squeezed us onto a table which was only big enough to accommodate 8. The waiters were miserable and most unhelpful. The food was very basic lacked balance on the plate with no vegetables not even as optional extras. The bill for this miserable experience was hugely overpriced and I would strongly suggest you give this restaurant a wide berth.

The restaurant was highly recommended by friends familiar to Cadiz. I visited with my husband and two daughters and it was possibly the worst food we had in our vacation in Andalucia -before Cadiz we were in Seville, and after we went to Malaga-. The service was pleasant, but nothing special, but the food was really bad, tasteless with the exception of the tortillita de camarones, but to be honest, that same morning we had tried one at the market that was just as good. We ordered the menu "Cadiz al cuadrado" that costs 45 euros per person. Not good at all, the royal de cococha de atún tasted so bad that none of us was able to finish it. The best was the bread that we had to order although it was supposed to be included in the menu. In sum, the biggest disappointment of our trip.

My wife and I went for lunch. We had no reservation and the restaurant was rather busy, so we've been asked to wait at the receception, and so we did for 20 mins. In the middle of our waiting time, a couple of locals enetered the restaurant and asked for a table for two. After a while, the waiter came to give us the table, but he gave it to the locals instead. When my wife questioned the waiter, he rudely told us that the locals had a reservation (not true - we understand spanish!!) and aggresively asked whether we wanted the table or not... We left and found another place. If you are a foreigner, don't bother going there...it is full of places around where they can treat you well.

Well!! Recommended but from the moment we arrived service surly and entitled, officious and snooty! But I still thought ok, open my mind . Everything we had was, less than mediocre.we had the grumpiest man, slamming plates down , ignoring us, not an ounce of charm or finesse. Starter, simple grilled prawns , fine , but nothing to go wrong! Salt bake seabass, did not realise that meant salty all the way thru. Turned up with no veg and half cooked potatoes. Sent back, and our veg arrived , BUT only after requesting where it was. It came, but Al dente /not nearly cooked seemed to be the way. We were not alone, table next to us also complained and we were all terrified of our waiter. In a nutshell they seem to be relying on their history, but get modernised and change ur surly waiters ASAP

This is just so charmingly oldfashioned and lovely. The traditional interiors with all the celebrity photos on the walls, the menu heavy on fish and seafood, the discreet waiters, everything is just as it should be. We had an amusegeule of potatosalad, simple, but etxtremely tasty, and our dos de lubina with spinach was perfect, accompanied by some very good wine. We have been before, and we will come again!

An uninspiring flat fishy ‘Tasting Menu’ for €45pp ex wine “; we were disappointed but then looking around on a Sunday, not one local table (90% of tables) ordered this menu, guess they know better. Upside, contrary to other reviews, staff were lovely, the fact that we speak a smattering of conversational Spanish doubtless helped. Our waiter Luis Miguel was a real sweetie, very attentive and very helpful with wine pairings. The maitre also was very professional; I guess maybe 60yrs in the business can make him appear less vivacious some days but hey, I think we can cut him some slack for those moments, right. He is a nice man. Also, *the foyer*, as described by another reviewer here, is the place to a Sunday, not a downgrade, as the main restaurant area is mobbed and just too noisy.

El Faro had been highly recommended by friends so we were really looking forward to the evening. We were so so disappointed. We were offered their winter menu which was a tapas selection. No other options where offered and to be fair we didn’t ask. Our first 4 options were delicious. The sea bass came out it was cold and raw so we sent it back. When it was returned cooked it was delicious. Then we got a small circle of mashed up fish which was absolutely disgusting. The two desserts followed quince & ice cream & a pistachio pannacotte which were put on the table together & didn’t taste very nice so we hardly touched them. No questions asked or replacements offered. Whilst we have minimal Spanish I felt we were on the tourist conveyer belt. Our initial waiter was lovely Cassius but he disappeared and after that it was very impersonal and rushed. Would we go back probably yes but there are other menus and I would insist on seeing them so I could make better choices. It would have been nice if these options had been offered and explained when we got there. Restaurants like El Faro can’t rest on their laurels. We should all be treated the same as paying customers whether local or not.

This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel as being the number one in Cadiz. Need to book the table. BIG disappointment; service was rude and arrogant, but most importantly food was pretty bad. I mean not good at all, but bad...We had the tasting menu (49 e/person), and the you expect to get the best tastes from the kitchen. We got potato salad (poor), some veggies (poor), some tuna fish (looked like cat food from a tin) etc. Nothing was good.
