We were a bit afraid that the old famous Auerbachs Keller had converted to a tourist trap. But it has not! It is still a lovely big place with a nice mixture of guests of all kind. Locals, tourist, artists, businessmen and others! The food we got were excellent! we shared a starter and had perfect main dishes accompanied by... More

A real touristic place. The food was ok and cheep - but nothing special. This is not a place to come for the food - but ok for the atmosphere.

This traditional restaurant is a must for everyone wanting to taste typical German food. With the beautiful surroundings and history of Goethe's Faust the food will certainly taste even better. Recommended.

Down the stone steps and through the wooden doors a spacious pleasantly lit dining area awaited us. Arched areas of the walls had scenes painted on them to add to the elegance and ambience of the restaurant. Saxon onion soup and beef soup for starters gave full flavours of main component ingredients. Beef roulade consisting of slices of beef wrapped... More

You really get a wonderful sense of the history of this place (est. in the 1500's!) sitting under glorious murals and ornate decor. The food is delicious as well. Perfect for a nice night out with your friends or significant other.

German food as you would expect it to be , a little big and a lot of table so I wouldn't go there for an intimate dinner but rather for your typical business dinner... The schwarzbier is very good !

Decent German food. Pretty empty but still the waitresses had to think real hard which table to assign us ... Not very cheap. Considered a tourist trap by locals.

Leipzig has way cheaper and way better food options. Service was unfriendly, food does not appear homemade. All of us complained about too much salt and little taste. Definitely not worth the money. Atmosphere is sadly more like a big drinking hall. Seen it once, won't go again.

For tourists this is a must see. Large historical cellar - apparently Goethe used this place as an inspiration for some scences out of Faust. Food is traditional German fare, bit expensive compared to other places, and of very good quality.
