Although this isn't unusual for a place in Europe to only take cash, one has to bear in mind that it is a little off the beaten track so make sure you have money before visiting. Staff were more than a little unfriendly and if you can't speak even a little German then you might struggle. One person in our... More

The restaurant was packed with people, mostly locals. We entered and were warmly greeted by a waitress. Despite our non-existent German, we were quickly seated and offered an English menu. The waitress kept the beer flowing while we waited for our food, which was absolutely delicious! This place felt very typical German and not touristy.

Went there with business colleagues in Cologne for a beer and traditional Cologne food. It was very busy, we stood at a small table for about an hour and had some 'light bites' of things like blood sausage, delicious raw minced pork with onions and an amazing smelly cheese, washed down with round after round of freshly pulled small glasses... I went with a group of 3 on a Sunday evening. The service was very friendly and fun. We chose classical options like the pork knuckle and schnitzel, the food was really tasty and heart warming. Cold Kölsch beer was a good companion for the meal. The quality is very good for the price and I would definitely return if... More

Very good brew house with reasonable food & very good kolsch. It's pretty small & gets crowded but worth the visit. I had the beef brisket & it was top notch. Had a cream sauce & the beets were nice.

They make everything from scratch in the kitchen and produce their own small batch Kolsch beer making a winning combination. The Food is well prepared and plentiful, bring your appetite! Small location so plan on arriving early to get a table. Well worth the visit!

Typical small Cologne Brew house serving Päffgen Kölsch. The food is typically Rhenish and large serves. I had the pork press wurst with bratkartoffel it was excellent.

I used to work in Cologne and went here regularly with friends; this review is from a recent visit to Cologne to see friends and catch up. Max Stark has always had good traditional Koelsch food (and good Koelsch of course) -- it is still excellent. The staff were very helpful, and realizing that we were there to catch up... More
