Lovely authentic German food

Loved this place. You open the front door and large heavy curtain just inside that, to keep the heat in. The place was packed, with long trestle tables and coat hooks above each table on the wall. We shared our end of the table with two ladies of our own age and this inspired good conversation and... read more

As soon as you arrive the service is very kind and warm, the staff speaks in English and their menus are as well in that language. Generous portions, excellent beer, clean and cozy environment make´s Atschel an incredible choice for people looking for traditional Frankfurt’s gastronomy. Well relation between price and quality. It´s for sure that I´ll be back.

This is a classic Sachsenhausen Apfelwein restaurant with classic german food. There are daily specials written on the wall that are fresh and more interesting that the everyday schnitzel and bratkartoffeln. We have taken out of town guests here and everyone loves it.

I went to Atscel on a Thursday night by myself. They have long tables and everyone was reserved for the evening. I was seated with a nice couple finishing their dinner. I chose the soup of the day which turned out to be a wonderful vegetable dumpling soup. My new found German friends insisted I have the Apple wine that's... More

Atschel is located right at the historic centre of Sachsenhausen south of the river Main. We wanted to taste some typical frankfurt food and found pretty much all the foods and drinks Frankfurt is famous for on the menu. Our meals were delicious, service was quick and friendly and due to the typical Gasthaus layout with long wooden tables and... More

A few friends told me the Germans are highly disciplined and kind of fixed to their way, a bit too serious compared to other South Europeans. Combined with war movies, my image about German is something close to military toughness. But this restaurant destroyed that image, once and for all. The waiter was truly very warm and nice. She showed... More

Visited the place for dinner with our German friends. While it lies outside of the main city area, it has the best german food we have tried in Frankfurt. The apfelwein was good and the Calvados was a good finish to the hearty meal. Worth finding out how to get there via the bahn or walk from the city centre.... More

Atschel is a very nice place in the heart of Sachsenhausen. Crowded and traditional in Frankfurt, it offers a variety of German (and Frankfurter) dishes and environment for the ones who want to hang out in a very German way. Tip: ask for the onion soup (Zwiebelsuppe), a delicious and traditional German appetizer.

I found this restaurant on tripadv and it was great! Crowded but the staff was helpful to find us a free table. The waitress was nice, always present, fast and very pretty :) the food is great and prices very cheap! Suggested!
