I picked this restaurant with a friend due to its location close to the Reeperbahn from reviews on Tripadvisor. We definitely weren't disappointed. The ambience, the service and the food were spot on. I'd recommend you to go if you're looking for a filling, tasty meal.

Freudenhaus was pretty close to where we were staying and it got good TA reviews, so off we went. It was rather dark inside with heavy and unusual decorations. It was quite warm inside and the small table in the corner did not help. Service was prompt and the waitress was perky (bordering on excess) and spoke English well. We... More

Loved the meal - only thing was that there was too much. I had the veal in mushroom sauce which I'd thoroughly recommend. Loved the service too, the two ladies running the place were buzzing about making sure we were happy. The only downside was that it was quite a hot and muggy day and there was a lack of... More

We met some German friends here and were warmly welcomed. It is a comfortable restaurant with interesting decor. We have been in Germany for almost two weeks and it was the best meal I have eaten. My friends all had schnitzel with two huge pieces on their plates which they said was delicious. I had rolled beef and red cabbage.... More

One of our aims in Hamburg was to try some traditional pannfisch - I had found Freudenhaus based on tripadvisor reviews when looking in the St Pauli area, but our tour guide also recommended it independently of this. I would say it was certainly deserving of the reputation as the food was delicious and the portions very generous. The restaurant... More

Two things that must be highlighted is service and portion. Staff is very kind and gentle and you barely manage to eat the whole dish. Food tastes really good and its presentation is made nicely. Very insteresting decoration as well. There are specific tables suited for couples.

My partner and I searched Hamburg for somewhere that did traditional German food. We stumbled across this place behind the Reeperbahn. The service was great and the food was lovely and very good value. We were both stuffed when we left. My partner and I had eaten somewhere the night before but left still feeling hungry for double the price.... More

Food was ok, nothing exceptional. Everything was fine until we had to pay and the waitress said they couldn't take credit cards ( like many places in Germany), my card is debit ( and therefor was previously accepted in other places as such). The waitress staring arguing that it was not and my payment couldn't go through, and then shouting... More
