Authentic food from the region

The food is awesome, very heavy, but also very tasty, and it was good to have such a meal on a cold winter day.

I saw good reviews of this place online and the hotel concierge backed up everything I had read. They were totally accommodating to my really poor German and happily spoke English to help things along. I tried the Labskaus and it was exactly what I was hoping for. It's an authentic northern German dish and I'd never seen it in... More

As a family of five we decided to have lunch at Brodersen's in Hamburg. Although living in Hamburg, we never visited this restaurant before, just passing by and wondering how it looks like and how the food might be. We had lunch at Brodersen's and were quite disappointed. The service is slow. We had to wait even for the menus... More

I was looking for something a little richer and more comforting, and wow, this menu did not disappoint! I loved it. The menu isn't so long as to be intimidating or to suggest the sort of place that offers a little of everything, and nothing that it's really good at; at the same time, it's no long enough to offer... Ate at Brodersen with colleagues after reading trip advisor and it is well worth a visit. Very welcoming staff who are happy to help explain the menu. The food was lovely and very generous portions. We had the recommended beef and potatoe stew as starter which was v tasty. The roast goose, potatoe dumplings and red cabbage was excellent. Washed... More

Situated in posh Rotherbaum district behind the university, Brodersen serves all Hanseatic classics (plus changing seasonal specials) in its cosy lower ground premises, or in summer, on the huge terrace too. Especially ideal for a wintery warming-up, time seems to stand still in here, with nods to Hamburg’s great tradition of naval trade and its upper-middleclass dynasties — Which is... More

Went with some colleagues for lunch. The restaurant is in the Souterrain of a classic house on Rothenbaumchaussee, a little bit dim for lunch but with a lot of collectibles quite cosy on a rainy Hamburg day. During lunch hours they have a small menue with specials - all between 8 and 10 EUR. Drinks are at fair prices too.... More

Had an evening meal outside in autumn sunshine. Very nice and light German food with a light beer. Staff pleasant and efficient.

We loved this small, informal place, both the outside and the inside. The service was excellent, though a bit slow at busy times (and the place is often very busy and popular). Food is local, with seasonal specialities like mushrooms; not fancy, but substantial and tasty and very fresh. Good local wines and beers.

Way too expensive and no consideration for coeliacs. Fish was deep fried in beer batter and we returned it however it was sent back even smaller and had been refried eventhough we had been told it would be a new fish. It is a pity about the waitress with the red hair who needs to do a course in customer... More
