Dinner at Luisenplatz

We had dinner here. The restaurant is located at the Luisenplatz not far from the Brandenburger Tor in downtown Potsdam, an area with many tourists. As the name implies the food here is Italian and it is possible to dine both inside and outside, weather permitting. The menu is quite extensive with several choices including pasta, pizzas, salads, and a selection of fish and meats. The food and service we had was okay for what we paid.

Decent serving for very good price

The food is nice enough. Nothing too special but basic Italian food. The prices could’ve bumped this review up to four stars because it is really cheap for a decent serving. Don’t come expecting haute cuisine and steer clear of the wine and you’ll be good. We came in for lunch. The afternoon server was a nice guy and who did his best. I came back in the evening asking if I had left my sweater there and got barked at by the man behind the bar, he bumped the review back to three stars.

I find that hese days, at least in my opinion, service creates the most memorable impression - good or bad - while food is a competitive area and most times you'll find it delicious in cheap or top level places as well. Who wants to eat at a restaurant where one needs to find a free table on his own, without as much as a greeting, then wait for half hour to be noticed and have the table cleaned, and, eventually, be asked for their order?! Well... This is what we experienced here, and definitelly not due to a busy time or shortage of staff, as two waiters were available during that time, just chatting idle by the stairs. They even waived at us once (!?!) Otherwise, the terrace is quite pleasant and very well located. The food was very good, too. Hence the balanced rating as average...

I ordered spaghetti with garlic and parsley. What can I say, even with such a simple dish, more or less everything went wrong. The spaghetti floated in a garlic broth of parsley no trace, but olives and pepperoni, actually inedible. This “restaurant” is underground and not recommended in any case.

CAT IN RESTAURANT !! At first we were welcomed nicely and everything made a good impression. Then one of the waiters let a cat into the restaurant and I still thought that someone would let her out again. But that didn't happen. I then asked the staff to send the cat back out, but the waiter just asked "why." I explained to him that I'm allergic and I don't think it's hygienic! But he just said the cat was at the other end of the room and he wasn't allowed in the kitchen, so that's the way it fits. I should have gone straight, but I'm not. Then when my spaghetti Napoli arrived, the mood did not improve. Canned sauce I can make at home, too. The waiter did not pay attention to us after the conversation about the cat (only when paying), did not ask if it tasted good or what you just do. Really not recommended!

Pasta looks like a puke! Fries not even fried, just soaked in oil. Pizza is cheap and prefabricated dough is used. Best you could get here is a bottled beer.

Good Reasonable Food

We went inside because it looked warm and inviting. Cozy restaurant. Servers are not that friendly but food is nicely prepared and tasty. We had arrabiata pasta and risotto and pork medallions, all tasty. I have to say this meal was exceptional value, in the right place at the right time.

Based on previous reviews we decided to take pizza (and 1 pasta), it's not tremendous but pretty good for 3,5€ for each. Pasta wasn't too bad as well. Don't expect large meal size but it was enough for me for a semi-decent lunch.

I had read glowing reviews of this restaurant and so was disappointed to have a less than stellar experience here. Honestly it was the only bad experience with anything I had spending a week in Berlin. The food was decent and cheaply priced but the waitstaff were incompetent and nasty at the same time. It took me 45 minutes to get my bill, and the only reason I didn't walk out was because I was worried i might have to explain it to the police. I would advise eating anywhere else in Potsdam, which is a cute little section in the far western area of Belrin.

Low quality and check your bill before you pay

At the end of the fussweg, through the arch and across the main street sits the Ristorante Contadino with its bright umbrellas pulling people in like a spider web catching fly's. It looked like the perfect to eat and their were plenty of tourist so we set down for a glass of wine and a small dinner. Service was slow which was not surprising as there were several other people there as well. I had the Scaloppa Bolonese and my wife ordered the spaghetti gorgonzola. The food was bland and the tomato sauce tasted as it was directly from a can and nothing added. I finished my glass of chianti and accepted the fact this was a poor restaurant choice. We were then shocked when the bill came for the meal which was not expensive at 18.20e was actually 28.90e for the waiter had added 2 pizzas and a coca cola and Sprite to our bill. I refused to pay and the bill was adjusted and the additional 10.20e was removed. No apology was offered and I left with the impression the mistake may have been intentional designed for a tourist that would not check their bill.

This restaurant is in the best location in the city, in Luisen Platz (2 minutes from Sanssouci and Main Street). The atmosphere is always nice; excellent for family meetings, or friends gather together o romantic dinners. The food is average, do not expect something luxurious. It is nice but nothing exceptional. The prices are very very affordable for constrained budgets. The only negative thing is the attention from Staff; some waiters are rude or they openly show that they do not want to attend you. They show their preference to attend girls, rather than boys. No jokes, it is serious... In general, it is a good place to go dinner sometimes in a while at the end of the month, when budget is a bit lower.
