Great location, great decor, good music… and the most inept and weirdly aggressive staff I’ve ever encountered at any establishment.
After being served some absolutely diabolical cocktails (the margaritas were the wrong colour and tasted like dishwater; the Mai Tais didn’t appear to have any...alcohol in them at all) we were told that re-pours were out of the question. “If two of you wanted margaritas,” the waitress said, “you should have just ordered one and tried it first.”
Even after it became clear that the barman who made our drinks hadn’t tasted them before serving (he didn’t drink) the head waitress remained adamant that the poor cocktails were actually faultless. The icing on the cake was her closing gambit, which was an absolute humdinger: “The people of Latin America absolutely love these cocktails, actually.”
I still have no idea what she meant by this. Was this a themed bar and we hadn’t noticed? Was she standing up for her boyfriend the clueless barman, who hailed from a country that apparently doesn’t have a clue how to mix drinks? Was she blindly taking too much pride in a sloppy iteration of her national cocktail, like an England fan desperately trying to excuse the actions of a violent hooligan? And was it really box office to accuse a few (very polite, honestly) customers of prejudice for not wanting to pay through the nose for appalling service?
A way-too-polite friend of mine insisted that we settle the bill before we left, and I wish we hadn’t.
If this establishment is to remain open, they should rename it “Attitude Problem” so that everyone knows what they’re getting.More
