We were recommended to try this bar by a friend who lives locally. It's quirky interior of hospital beds, office chairs and medical equipment makes perfect sense when your drink is served in a conical flask. The menu is far reaching and intriguing. Of course, you can have beer if you like, but this is a cocktail bar and I'm... More

WOW ! What a place... we had been told about this bar at home in Penzance and had set out once in Berlin on our honeymoon to find this bar, we weren't disappointed. The decor is mad, I don't want to spoil the surprise so I won't elaborate. The 2 staff were busy but were still friendly and attentive, they... More

Imagine 'back to the future' crossed with the comedy potential of Zyklon B. Rude, sullen staff - is ths meant to be part of the ambience / theme? Pretentious and ultimately boring, we left before being served, after the 'in charater' mad scientist bartender told us we were 20th in his queue for a drink - when the bar was... More

Berlin has been doing quirky and hip for years, but this place just feels like it's riding someone else's wave...I could be wrong, I don't know how long it's been there but it felt lazily grubby, ramshackle & gimmicky. OK cocktails - service OK. Not overly comfortable and just better elsewhere. Certainly wouldn't travel for it.

Whoa, this place is amazing, hospital beds and office chairs and coffin tables invite to enjoy the funny menu. The operator and owner is a former chemist thus knows his way around the bunsen burner and creating aged cocktails. It is a must for any person interested in visiting something original.

This is a really special bar with office chairs and bar looking like a chemistry laboratory. The have a long menu with unusual drinks and cocktails. I had real issue to decide which one to choose. I tried a Moloko+ and it was a best drink I ever had..with 2 types of rum, juices, cream & homemade jam in, it... More

This is a bar with a great menu, knowledgable staff, good drink preparation at reasonable prices - and I still didn't care for it much. It's kind of a gimmicky place. It's decked out in screaming yellows, there's office furniture, hospital beds and some chemical accessories that make it look like someone's attempt to recreate the Breaking Bad set, but... More

The atmosphere is definitely unique here: from the menu to the walls everything is clearly well thought. There is an extremely long list of cocktails, and also quite some beers (I highly suggest the typical bock, which takes its name from the bar). There is also a "underground playground" in which it is possible to play mini soccer.

This bar is 'mad-scientist' themed and the cocktails are carefully crafted and come served in beakers. Very unusual and the cocktails are tasty - however, if you don't speak German, bring a phrasebook so you don't get confused about the ingredients! We went twice during a 5-day trip.

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighborhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighborhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and 60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and 90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighborhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
