Gendarmenmarkt is a charming location to explore in Berlin. Our concierge recommended that we stop here for lunch after visiting Museum Island. There are wonderful linden trees and street performers and our lunch was outstanding. The interior looked stunning, but we were enjoying a beautiful day outside. We had a chance to have good food and rest our poor, poor... More

We have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. In the summer months sitting outside is a must. The street performers are tasteful and never a bother while the staff is friendly and helpful. Very tourist friendly but many locals also frequent here. Food is a little expensive but well worth it and the drinks wonderful. In the... More

On a beautiful day which we had this is a great place to have refreshments out on the patio, enjoying the view of the Gendarmenmarkt area. Our tour guide told us that this restaurant was part of the French Church attached started by the persecuted Huguenots from France, building the church around 1600's. We did not dine but were told... Beautiful restaurant close to the concert hall. Cosy atmosphere and fantastic service. Each course was immaculately prepared, and I would not like to choose a single dish as everyone that arrived at our table of four, for each course was lovely

This is an expensive tourist area and we wanted somewhere quiet to have lunch. The surroundings are very elegant, and we were worried in case it would be too expensive, but the price was quite reasonable for a light lunch and the quality of food very good.

They have an area outdoors. It is perfect to relax and have some beers when the weather helps. Noce spot to see the square!

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
