Service was great. Food was great. Nice atmosphere in a great location. I celebrated my birthday here with 16 people. I was able to enjoy myself thoroughly because I saw people being taken care of, with glasses refilled without being pushy and everyone being served promptly. Food was creative and tasty. Guests all had positive comments.

We ate there one evening, sitting outside with a view of the Gendarmenmarkt and the beautiful Catherdral a few yards away. We had the 3-course option which wasn't cheap (about 65 euros each) but considering the view, the first class service, and wonderful food, it was a holiday treat that was well worth it.

We had a lovely dinner at Refugium while an outdoor concert was taking place just next door in front of the concert hall. Asparagus soup, lightly smoked trout, Caesar salad and salmon three ways appetizer were all very tasty and well presented. Service was good. With 4 glasses wine, a cappuccino, a black cherry dessert (only so-so) and a large... More

Food was nice, nothing overly special, but certainly good value when eaten outside with the beautiful views of the square and culture wrapped around every viewpoint. Staff were fabulous

This restaurant has a brilliant setting, and the food is also very good. You really feel like a guest here - the service is good. too. The prices are a little bit too expensive.

Great setting and great venue, but the food didn't quite hit the mark, given the price. The food was ok. Amouse Bouche of cauliflower panacotta was disappointingly bland. Starter of tuna carpaccio was good. Main course salmon a bit oily and asparagus over cooked. Tiramisu was bland but chocolate sorbet good. Overall did not quite hit the mark given the... More

Usually places with wonderful situations, the food is an after thought NOT SO HERE What a wonderful combination of venue and mouthwatering food Service was attentive and flexible, suggesting on a cool night to take in the delightful surroundings (with blankets over our legs) with a pre-dinner drink before moving inside for the exceptional dinner. I am so impressed by... More

Very nice place to sit, old chapel. Food was very tasty and well cooked. Portion size was OK. Friendly service. Although a bit overpriced for what you get.

Visited here as we were in the area and our guidebook recommended it. The ambience and setting is great -in an old cellar. Food is exquisitely presented and cooked just right. Not given 5 stars as the starter to share was very overpriced. Great place for a celebration.

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
