It was a cool rainy night and we wanted somewhere close to our hotel. This was a perfect spot for good food in a beautiful setting with good service!

They have an area outdoors. It is perfect to relax and have some beers when the weather helps. Noce spot to see the square!

Given the location on Gerndarmenmarkt square, you might think this would be a tourist trap, but it's not at all. It's very good food, with professional, very attentive service. We were there for lunch on a sunny day and were happy to sit outside under umbrellas, looking at the beautiful buildings on the square. We had fish and chicken dishes... More

Took my mother to this lovely restaurant on our last evening of our holiday in Berlin. After 2 weeks we were a bit over curry wurst, pork knuckle and potatoes so this was a perfect end to our trip. We arrived around 8pm, without a reservation, but were seated quickly at an outside table looking out over the Gendarmenmarkt square.... More

In a heatwave of 33 stopped here for recovery. Lovely terraced area under the shade of trees. Looking onto the square. Friendly waiting staff. Reasonable prices for such a spot. Inside restaurant looked stunning.

Service was great. Food was great. Nice atmosphere in a great location. I celebrated my birthday here with 16 people. I was able to enjoy myself thoroughly because I saw people being taken care of, with glasses refilled without being pushy and everyone being served promptly. Food was creative and tasty. Guests all had positive comments.

We ate there one evening, sitting outside with a view of the Gendarmenmarkt and the beautiful Catherdral a few yards away. We had the 3-course option which wasn't cheap (about 65 euros each) but considering the view, the first class service, and wonderful food, it was a holiday treat that was well worth it.

We had a lovely dinner at Refugium while an outdoor concert was taking place just next door in front of the concert hall. Asparagus soup, lightly smoked trout, Caesar salad and salmon three ways appetizer were all very tasty and well presented. Service was good. With 4 glasses wine, a cappuccino, a black cherry dessert (only so-so) and a large... More

Food was nice, nothing overly special, but certainly good value when eaten outside with the beautiful views of the square and culture wrapped around every viewpoint. Staff were fabulous

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
