We decided to go to barcomi's because of a good review on a city guide. Located in the heart of Scheunenviertel (the old jewish quarter), on a courtyard, this place has the style of the NYC's cafes. Very good coffee and delicious cakes! We ordered the cream cheese & salmon bagel as well. The only complain is the price, a... More

Walking up to Sophienstabe 21, you would never guess what lurks behind an ordinary gate but this beautiful (picture above) quiet and quaint courtyard. Some of these courtyards date back to mid 1800s and still house these cute little shops that took me by surprise as the outer building gives you no clue as to what you will find. They... More

A local friend took me there to taste what he claimed to be the best "New York Cheesecake". He was absolutely right. The service was a bit annoying, the location was beautiful.

As an American living in Germany, I got to the point where I was craving a good bagel. At Barcomi's they have a great variety, and homemade cream cheeses! I got the bagel and lox with spicy jalapeño cream cheese and it was delicious, I've gone back several times since and it never disappoints! The location is great and very... More

I wish TripAdvisor had a grade between "average" and "very good," because Barcomi's is above average but not quite "very good." For some reason, Berlin just can't make a great, NY-style bagel, but Barcomi's gives it a good shot, and they have lots of other offerings (e.g., pecan pie, wraps) to remind U.S. expats of home. They were among the... More

We walked by Barcomi's by accident, following people going into what seemed to be an interior courtyard. The cafe has a nice terrace and is quite roomy inside. We easily brought in our stroller and were able to use a highchair in very good condition. Big, fresh sandwiches and desserts seem to be the favourites. The food was good and... More

We like the good, simple, wholesome deli food, the atmosphere and the frienldy service. we had to hunt to find the place at first as it is in a courtyard offf the main street, but we are glad that we made the effort. It was the perfect place for a relaxed, simple lunch with good food, coffee and tea. It... More

For us expats, the one place to get true American desserts - cheesecakes, apple pie, pecan pie, carrot cake. Can be hard to find a place to seat when it's busy, especially if you're in a larger group, but well-worth the wait.

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
