I feel that raving over a particular establishment has become such a cliché but Richard really is in a league of its own. I was very satisfied from the get-go; the menu was a solid selection, be it various meats, fish or vegetarian. I can sometimes get stumped by strange unappetising options in some establishments, but Richard's is proof of... More

If this place once had a good kitchen, things have changed. Ordinary lunch food minimized and served in a high class disguise. Maybe I had bad luck with my ribs and choclate-dessert, but for a place with a star there is no room for misstakes.

During our twelve day stay in Berlin, we splurged on two higher end recommended restaurants. Richard, like many such establishments, has what one might expect: a beautifully appointed interior, rather quirky but interesting art, impeccable, tasteful service, and very creatively presented dishes. In contrast to the Rutz wine bar, we found the flavours here to be more distinctive and interesting--all... More

I believe the title of the comment says it all about the restaurant. We booked it with my partner for a special occasion, as we both appreciate good food. We had the 7-gang menu with a red wine recommended by the waiter. At this point i should mention that i wish there was a recommendation for wine pairing for each... More

It was an extremely enjoyable meal. Great food, beautifully presented. It was evident that the chef was having fun, and this fun passed on to the diners. Not least important, the atmosphere was very pleasant, and not stiff and pompous as it gets sometimes in upscale restaurants like this. We'll definitely be back on our next visit to Berlin. I... Were we in the right place? From the street we first saw an intricately handworked wooden ceiling, from around about 1890. Was this the gourmet french restaurant where we had reserved a table? Once inside, the impression changed entirely. The interior is well-appointed with diverse artworks assembled with exquisite taste. We selected 4 and 5 courses from the monthly menu:... More

Great location for parking, next to the river Spree, with a summer beach. The menu is interesting, but many of the dishes are adventurously overdressed, often detracting (or detracting) from the basics. Service is delightfully friendly but so very s...l...o...w ! waited 20mins. for the bill.....

It is a nice restaurant and the food is good. If you're looking for something really special though, I'd go elsewhere.

For the star I expected more. Food was hit and miss, but never outstanding. Service friendly but not very attentive..Place was nearly empty and lacked atmosphere. I wouldn't go again..

We enjoyed our wedding anniversery at this restaurant and we will come back, if we have something to celebrate. The ambiance of this historic restaurant is very pleasant. At first we had a glass of champagne (Euro 12) then we chose four courses (Euro 58) from the menue, A bottle of water (E 6,50), a bottle of Meursault (E 68)... More

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighborhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighborhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and 60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and 90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighborhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
