I went to Berlin for a week in october and I have eaten most of the typical german dishes. One time I was here and I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Try it!

The Kartoffelhaus No 1 was a lovely place to spend an evening. The food isn't elaborate, but it is well cooked and the staff were very welcoming and allowed us to move a candle from another table into our little area where we spent a very romantic evening together in the candle light and celebrated being in Berlin. We hope... More

Located near Alexander platz is maybe one of the few German restaurants you can find...the prices are a bit high though. Food good and service quite efficient.

The portions here are BIG - be warned! A starter may well be a full meal for anyone with a small appetite. For those who don't speak German, Kartoffel means potato - pretty much everything on the menu is potato-based, including dessert. The beer menu is good and prices are reasonable. If you like disco music, you'll probably love this... More

Traditional German Restaurant with great service. My boyfriend and I had the 'Currywurst XXL' and it was seriously big- and tasty! This is a great and reasonably priced restaurant after a long day walking around and sight seeing!

This is a typical local German food mainly based on potatoes. Decoration of the restaurant was cosy and warm which I loved. Food was good especially the tomato soup. Fried vegetables on baked potato was not the best one. Main problem with the place was the attitude of the waitress. She was grumpy, unhappy, rude and made us feel not... More

I had Potato wedges, which is my favorite and I would recommend you this dish here. The staff is not super friendly and the place is pricey.

Lovely inside, like a traditional old German pub. Staff are lovely and friendly too. Food is excellent- a wide choice of food with something to suit everybody. Food comes in hearty portions, piping hot and freshly cooked. Excellent!

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
