Came across this restaurant by chance. We only stayed for a couple of drinks but the food looked good and reasonably priced. Set on a tree lined quiet street this was a friendly place with great staff. A great place to chill and enjoy the good weather.

We stopped here for drinks as we toured around Charlottenburg. Almost all the outside tables were taken and we could just sit, drink and soak up the atmosphere. The added attraction is draft Guinness and all the locals were drinking it too. Didn't eat here but the food looked great as it came out.

Arrived at 6 and all the tables outside were occupied. We were found a table inside which was reserved from 8. The staff were very attentive and prepared to chat. The portions were large. I finished with apfelstrudel with cream and custard - very tasty. Shall definitely recommend to friends and family.

Nice place, good food. Schnitzel was very nice, served as a huge piece of meat. If you are more than 4 people suggest to reserve in advance. Small place, gets busy easily.

We asked for "the best place for schnitzel in town," and our 5-star hotel staff recommended Dicke Wirtin! We were not disappointed. Our server bent over backwards to be helpful, though what we really wanted (Jaegerschnitzel) wasn't actually on the menu. No fries, either, but their fried potatoes were pretty outstanding. Would come again!

Holy schnitzel! They say portion sizes are smaller in Europe....um, I think not. The schnitzel could have feed three grown men! It was delicious, but HUGE! We had great service with very friendly and entertaining waiters. There was a good mix of tourists and locals. Nice place!

Unfortunately this was our first dining experience in Berlin, and confronted with extreme attitude from middle aged, rude staff. Can only improve I guess. Food was ok, but trip advisor reviews way overstating it's awesomeness... or lack of.

This was my second visit and the menu remained the same as I'd remembered it from a couple years back. The food this time round (I had the beef with spaetzle), the food was a tad too salty for my liking. (I had the schnitzel the last time, and that might be a better choice, though I did think I've... Dicke Wirtin - The fat landlady and the portions shed light on the name; my wife & I took a chance and turned up without a reservation on a busy evening; we were immediately welcomed and accommodated by the restaurant. If you're looking for a restaurant with a great atmosphere, with a genuine German feel - this is the place... More

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighborhood Profile
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighborhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theaters close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
