Until it was time to pay and then we had to search for the staff! We lunched riverside which was lovely under their umbrellas. We had a quick lunch of sausages and kraut (2 orders) which were share. Average. When we ordered our beers our server asked if we wanted them 'Berlin style'. Apparently that means with a fruit type... More

My daughter and I came across this restaurant by accident on our walks in Berlin central, we sat at their outside cafe next to the river Shpree. Jan, pronounced Yann, the waiter, was a lovely young man, he could not have been nicer to us, and served us with a smile. He also answered our questions about Berlin and the... More

Came across this little gem after visiting the Brandenburg Gate. I must say we were very impressed. Jan, our waiter was very friendly and helpful, giving us useful information about Berlin. He was charming. Had a Greek salad with French dressing, which was divine. It came with lovely fresh bread. My mum had apple strudel, which was to die for.... More

After walking around for 15-20 minutes trying to find a cafe, we found Die Eins on the side of the river. They had a nice set up looking on to the river. They had their menu in English but not their breakfast options which was a bit weird. I had the Berlin meatballs with potato salad and my girlfriend had... More

Great food at great prices for a riverside venue. The burgers at €12.00 were absolutely delicious. Fabulous place to stop for lunch especially with a table at the side of the river in the sunshine.

We were so lucky to find this lovely resturant right on the river. We sat outside by the river for the evening. My self and my husband had a pasta dish each with wine and beer. We had a relaxed evening the food was superb. The service was excellent.

It was snowing quite heavily and Die Eins was the nearest restaurant to where I was working. The bad weather did me a favour otherwise I may not have discovered this Berlin gem. Situated by the river and nicely furnished the restaurant is traditional German. I had the currywurst which came with a massive portion of fries followed by the... More

We were there with a party of 5. I had the "Currywurst", which was OK. All dishes came more or less at the same time and the service was good.

This is one of the few restaurants we found taking advantage of the river. Lovely setting with friendly staff and good food. We opted for currywurst and Berliner meatballs as it was our last night. I had the apple strudel for dessert and it was delicious, arrived with cream, ice cream and some kind of custard! Delicious. Best value meal... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
