My partner and I decided to stop by this place for a quick drink and watch some local performers in the park area. Looking at the menu of drinks we were a bit shocked by some prices so decided to go for a coke which we assumed would be cheaper. Unfortunately we didn't know he price of the cokes and... More

I had a beer there and sat in one of the lounge chairs for an hour, it was so nice! It was relaxing sitting there and also a good place for peoplewatching! It has nice views of the Berlin Cathedral!

If in the Museum area and want to take a break for lunch, go to Ampelmann. Menu is simple, the area is fantastic, almost like if you were at the beach in the middle of what use to be East Berlin. Great view of the Spree and the back of the Cathedral. Pizza was good, roasted beet salad was great.... More

Dry snitzel and uninspired currywurst. Save your money and go to local stand and get much cheaper sausage. Locals were much smarter and ordered the pizza.

As their menu is very limited, we decided to share a prosciutto and rocket pizza (we figured it'd be a safe bet). I think we made the right decision, as the pizza was absolutely delicious! Very good quality and perfectly baked. Prices are very reasonable, considering location. Very nice outdoor seating with views of the canal/museums. Staff very polite, which... More

.Poor menu, only three options to choose. Took the pizza and the schnitzel and it was fine. The stuff is very friendly It seems more like a breakfast resturant and not more.

We found this place on a wander through the city as we got hungry for lunch. A lovely spot by the river to have a drink in the sun and watch the world go by. Still quite cold at this time of year but blankets provided to cover our knees. We had no expectations and were very pleasantly surprised with... More

We went there for breakfast. They have 2 choices for breakfast: for 1 person and for 2 people. Breakfast for 2 people was a lot of food including scrambled egg, glass of prosecco or OJ, salmon & salad, various cheeses, ham and salami, some fruit and cherry tomatoes, butter, jam, bread and rolls. Food was really good but service to... More

Popped in here for a quick drink in the sun. Ended up staying for two lovely bottles of Prosecco. You get a stunning view of the river and cathedral and it's a wonderful vantage point to watch the world go by. There are only two female toilets here so every time I wanted to go to be loo I had... A rainy Berlin eve and we happened across Ampelmann. Cozy atmosphere, nice menu and the loveliest service courtesy of Mattia. Thoroughly welcomed!

The AMPELMANN Restaurant is located in Berlin Mitte (in the S-Bahn arches at Hackescher Markt).Located directly on the Spree you can take a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle and you can taste creative Berliner cuisine and international favorites here. Of course, there are also vegetarian and vegan dishes. At the AMPELMANN beach bar you can relax on comfortable deckchairs, with a delicious cocktail or a refreshing beer and enjoy the Berlin summer to the fullest with the unique view of the Spree and the Museum Island. Every Sunday and holiday, there is between 10 am - 2 pm a great brunch buffet. Due to popular demand we recommend a reservation for brunch. Children under 7 years eat for free, at the age of 7 - 12 years for 50 % (including an AMPELMANN gift) and they are allowed to bake under expert guidance their own pizza. The Ampelmännchen is one of the few things that survived the fall of the Wall in 1989. Meanwhile, the Ampelmann has become a Berlin ambassador. This was assured by the company AMPELMANN. In addition to the AMPELMANN Restaurant there is a café and six shops, where every visitor will find a piece of Berlin to take home with.

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
