Very warm welcome by the 2 English speaking waiters. Very homey, welcoming feeling. Initially I thought "oops, it's a tourist-only place (which sometimes happens with tripadvisor)" but as I observed, I saw that it was actually a good mix of locals and English-speaking tourists, which ended up forming this overall welcoming feel for this German "pub." What is great about... More

Nice little find across from our pension Columbus. I particularly liked the warm pub-style atmosphere and we realised this place is a bit of an institution with the locals and foreigners alike. The food we ordered was very tasty, home cooked German and there is a wide range of drinks available. We will return and great for the last drink... More

The Patzenhofer is a quiet but cozy place right in the heart of the city just off the Ku'Damm. The beer is good (Berliner Kindl) and there is a great menu of hearty, traditional German favourites like Tafelspitz, Bauernfrüstuck and Sauerbraten. It's a little dark, but in a way that's what I like. It adds to the atmosphere. The staff... More

Ate here late one evening, after reading Trip Adviser reviews of the area near our hotel. We had a very friendly welcome, which continued throughout our visit. The decor has an old-school, German charm; just like the food. We visit Germany, and specifically Berlin, often and this is good, honest German food; thankfully without too much of a K'damm price... We booked a table in the morning for that evening. Upon arrival we learnt that the table was occupied by another group, who were just using the table to drink at rather than eat. We were offered a very small side table totally unsuitable for an evening meal on the vague promise that a table would become available "later". We... More

The Zum Patzenhofer is located just off the Kurfürstendam. Service, food and ambiance is authentic old world German. It is nice to find a gem of a restaurant amidst the modern high end shopping district. The menu has a nice selection of food and drinks at a very reasonable price.

Had a lovely meal here this week on visit to Berlin. Good selection of steaks, and German specialties. Good hearty food, and nice beers in cosy surroundings. Highly recommended

Visited on our last night in Berlin due to previous ratings on tripadvisor. We booked earlier in the day as a precaution although probably wasn't needed. The only reason it is not five stars is our seats were quite cramped close to other couples. The food seems to be real German fare with a feeling of home cooking. The staff... More

We were there at lunchtime on Tuesday and I was delighted to have found such a gem - shame it was just as we were leaving Berlin! The food was simply outstanding, everything was fresh and the portion size was perfect. Our host was wonderful. My husband doesn't speak any German and our host translated everything on the Specials menu... More

We found this restaurant/bar on our first evening in Berlin. Just off the busy Kurfürstendamm (about 150m from The Hard Rock Cafe) this place was an absolute gem. Real home cooked german food at very reasonable prices - we ate there on 3 of our 4 nights in Berlin. We couldnt fault it - friendly staff, varied menu and good... More

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighborhood Profile
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighborhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theaters close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
